Is jogging safe?

Hi everyone! I'm almost 11 weeks and started off this pregnancy overweight. I've already gained 5lbs, and my midwife advised that I keep my weight gain to a minimum by cutting down on carb intake (i.e. rice, pasta, bread, etc. - all of which I are my favorite things that I'm absolutely craving right now! I know it will be really tough to do, so I started jogging a few days ago to help lose some calories. After the 4th loop up a hill, I started feeling dizzy and stopped, and I walked the rest of the way. I have an appointment next week with my Dr. but I'd like to keep jogging every other day until then. My family thinks I should be power walking instead, but I just love jogging. I played rugby for 5yrs and love the feeling of a good work out (which I don't get from walking). Does anyone have any advice?? I lost my baby last yr at 8 weeks and don't want to mess this up!

I jogged throughout my first pregnancy. It didn't clash with me, so to speak.  I was told to watch my temp and heart rate. I felt great. Listen to your body! Don't ignore any minute cues to slow down!  Now, this go round- I can't even walk down a grocery store aisle quickly without motion sickness... So no jogging for me anymore, now it clashes.

:) have fun! I loved my class... I had to stop mine around 30 weeks but that combined with prenatal yoga is splendid!  They told me in my birth class that women who swim & do yoga throughout pregnancy have better, faster, easier labors.

Water aerobics! Running in the water feels good and it's easier on your joints with all that relaxin... plus you are wet so you are nice & cool! :)

Good point. I haven't done any exercise other than walking in the past 2 yrs, so I think I'll stick to that until I talk to my Dr. Thanks!

they recommend you do what you were doing before you're pregnant. I wouldn't go above and beyond what you your body was used to without talking to doctor first.
