Medicinal Marijuana - CA

I'm curious if anyone else has had a Dr tell them that smoking to relax is better than allowing yourself to get angry or stressed?

Before anyone judges me, my husband and I gave up everything during the year we actively tried to have a baby and when it didn't happen we felt so discouraged and gave up. We had decided we didn't want to try anymore and fell back into smoking when I was stressed or anxious or angry so I wouldn't focus on those feelings too much. Well we went in to get birth control and found out i was about 6 weeks and we were ecstatic! But I instantly thought of everything I had done and felt horrible, of course the blood test showed the marijuana but when I explained to the Dr about why and when I use it, she told me that I should continue use in those situations up until the end of the second trimester. She explained it's better to not put that stress or negative feelings on myself or the baby. Also, if I try the gym, venting and my other ways to cope but I still feel at a breaking point that I should feel comfortable doing that.

I still don't know how I feel about it and just wanted some other opinions. I haven't done it at all since I found out because it still feels wrong but I have been pretty stressed lately and it makes me wonder what is better.

I'm 32 weeks and I have smoked the whole time.. I have a 10 yr old and a 5 yr old and I didn't smoke with them but this pregnancy had been so stressful so I continued to smoke. I looked up everything about it and didn't find any evidence of it being harmful to the baby. I've been really upset a lot because of my living situation and constantly worried so sometimes just taking a couple of puffs will help calm me down. I don't think there is anything wrong with it and my baby is healthy every time we go to a check up!!

Thank you all so much for the information! I had a bad day and decided to give in and it was amazing to finally relax and not feel like my stomach's in knots. My mom smoked with my sister and I and while my sister has some issues, I am doing really good in comparison and I feel like there were so many good stories I read here as well. I will definitely stop in my third trimester and by then we will be in a other state which will help me a lot! My environment is what makes me stressed most so I'm thinking the move will really help.

Thanks to all of you awesome ladies!

I am pro cannabis to the fullest... I don't use it myself, but I also have no reason to... I know plenty of women who smoked marijuana while pregnant and the babies all turned out healthy as can be... I've NEVER on my life met a woman that gave birth to an unhealthy baby while smoking weed. Sounds like you have a great doctor in my opinion

I am currently 35 week's pregnant with my 3rd child.  I've been a smoker my entire adult life.  Also with all of my pregnancies.  Never where there any medical problems.  Weight gain was definitely not a problem,  no breathing problems. My daughter is a very healthy 5 1/2 year old,  my son 18 month's old. Both very advanced, hardly ever get sick. There are many advantages of marijuana. So don't feel guilty momma !!!

For what its worth, im pregnant.. and I don't smoke. However, my mother smoked throughout her entire pregnancy with me. I'm the only college graduate in my family, I'm extremely healthy, never had any kind of learning disabilities, and now at 28 have an amazing job and a loving husband. I'm not necessarily saying that there are any benefits to smoking or using marijuana while pregnant, but I do think that if you do the risks to your baby are minimal. This is all based on what I've personally experienced in my life and maybe it will give you a little relief from your guilt. May you have a wonderful pregnancy.

I'm only in my first trimester but find that smoking helps ease my morning sickness and fatigue. My husband complains but I tell him it helps I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I just got over a horrible cold and being that I could take no meds smoking eased my pain.

Well... I think the smoking actually helped me get pregnant.   Just like you, it took my mind off of what I was trying to accomplish.   Next thing I knew, I just felt pregnant and took a test.   I smoked one last time to celebrate (was only 5 weeks at the time) and stopped completely.  I wasn't a big smoker or used it for medicinal reasons but it relaxed me.   So, no judgment from me.

You just take care of you, and stay away from the crazy as best you can. I'd cut her out of my social media so you don't even have to see her face. You and daddy just focus on you guys, the happy time now, and the fun stuff to come - naming, picking out cute stuff, birthing classes together, hearing the heartbeat together etc. Stay positive :)

Thank you! Ahh I hope the puking gets better :/ I haven't experienced it much but I'm expecting it any day now. My Dr said to stop by then too so that makes me feel better!

I'm dealing with a lot family wise and I've been really stressed and sad, this is a really happy time but I'm sad that my blood family doesn't care to be involved for some pretty pathetic reasons and I have a crazy sister in law who threw keys at my face and has been trying to stress me to have a miscarriage because she wants to be the only one to have given her parents a grandchild.... It's too much crazy sometimes and I feel like I need a release!

Thank you so much again :) Good luck with everything in your pregnancy!

PS, you're expected to be a lil stressed because of hormones anyway, but if your doc says it's negatively affecting you n the baby...lil dab will do ya lol.

I'm 32yrs old and 13weeks along, babys healthy too - I 've been smoking to deal with hypertension and Hyperemesis Graviderum (puking waaay too much). I told my doc and although she said it's not the best, my ailments are worse. She just said to stop by the 6th month when the lungs start to develop because it increases asthma risks and low birth weight risks if ANY KIND of smoking is done in the third trimester.

I did my own research on whether kids show "marked differences" to nonsmoke kids, and no. They don't. They're not slower, no physical defects, no learning disabilities etc. so, I feel comfortable doing it to keep food down and my tension low. Hope this helps :)
