Money Saving Tips!!

Hi ladies, my partner & I decided that we didn't want to spend a lot of money on baby stuff as we would rather put that money towards holidays & savings so I can take more time off work.  Thought I would share this with you as I have loads of friends who have young kids & they're all struggling financially & all of them say they wish they'd not spent so much so they could have a better life style.

So far we bought a second hand travel system for £150 it has everything we need the exact same one new would have cost us £800. Also bought a second hand specialist bath that you can only get in France for £15 on ebay & loads of other cool stuff including second hand furniture which we are repainting & recovery etc . Everything washing & cleans up like new & afterall it's only had a tiny baby sleeping or using it.

For baby blankets I've bought cheap adult throw rugs cut them in half & sewed them up. So cheap!! Bought a whole lot of cute fabric & made muslim wraps, pillows, chuck rags etc.

I do alot of window shopping & have a don't buy on first look rule. Almost 99 percent of the time I find something I like better elsewhere & at a better price.

If friends offer anything I gladly accept, why spend money unnecessarily & it's nice to have pre loved things about. I think it's good karma.

So far I'm super impressed with our second hand goods & have nearly £1400 saving. Most of these items bub will only need for first six months & we can afford a week in Croatia or our bathroom renovations or I can take a extra 3 months off work!!

I sometimes get the guilty feeling like 'am I giving my baby the best' but then I remind myself life isn't abouthaving the best possessions it's about experiences with the ones you love.

If you're feeling the urge to spend spend spend think of all the money you could save & what you could do with it.

Happy thrifty mum :-)

Do you have any money saving tips to share???

I love hand me downs I take whatever I can get. And anything I can make by hand I make like all my blankets and even made cloth diapers but I wait till the fabric stores have coupons and a sale going on. And crackpots is awesome for cheap or free things u can repaint or fix up.

Hey that's my country of birth Croatia! :-) living in US now. We are having our first baby and we move a lot don't have many friends and family close by so we had to buy everything new. I'm very paranoid about second hand stuff from people I don't know. Anyways the biggest expenses here are bedroom furniture and stroller Car seat. We got new high quality set that will hopefully last for our next child and it converts into twin size bed. Car seats have expiration dates so we needed new and you also cant use them if they have been in a minor accident. But you are right everything is so expensive its crazy. So many things needed im hoping that most things last for the rest of our kids to come since clothes will only be used for a couple weeks at the most. Too much money.

I agree with you. I'm having my third daughter and the only thing I have bought new is my play yard.? I have yet to buy bottles. But those will more than likely be the only things I buy brand new.

Cloth diapers saved us thousands of dollars on our first baby and since we'll be using them again for our second baby our cost will be almost nothing (I need to buy some flannel for cloth wipes but that shouldn't be more than $20 plus a little time in cutting and sewing).
