Thank you all ladies for sharing your experiences, the more stories I hear the more I get my mind and body ready with what's to come ahead :)
I had a midwife and during the delivery of my son she did some sort of stretching with her hands. Nothing before delivery. I didn't feel it when she did it at all because I was already in pain from the actual labor and pushing. I delivered a 10 lb 3 oz baby without a single tear!
I had to have an episiotomy and I tore. I had stitches from the top to bottom after delivery. It was awful. I didn't feel the cut so much during delivery but the healing process was terrible. H opeing it doesnt happen this time!
I guess it depends on where you deliver... With my first I tore a little got maybe one or two stitches... Didn't tear with my second... My third was completely natural(no drugs at all)... I didn't tear with that one either... Now I had a cousin who delivered her first after I delivered mine and she said that she was cut, but that was because her babies head was big and she was getting tore a lot...
This is a good question. Its so scary when you get close to delivery i never even thought of ripping! I'm just planning on a natural delivery this time around and that everything goes ok.... But now i guess there is more to worry about... Lol
I have to disagree with these ladies. I've had 3 kids and only had to get cut with my son. I remembered the doctor telling me he needed to do it and I panicked. He told me that cutting me was necessary as he could tell I was going to tear and that stitching up a straight cut would be much easier than stitching up a jagged tear. I trusted his decision and was cut. I didn't feel pain during the cutting or the sowing and I was completely healed with no sign of the incision in a year, tops.
Episiotomies are rarely done anymore. You tear on your own then they numb you and stitch you up and you have no idea it's really happening bc you're holding your new baby :)
Yes it hurts!!! But mainly just the stitching part. But usually when the doctor is doing it you are holding your baby so it's not so bad :) I'm guessing if you had an epidural you might not feel it but I had a natural labor and felt it both times....but I think them cutting is better then you tearing. If you tear they would need more stitches and would be harder to stitch an uneven line!!! You'll be fine. Good luck.
@singermomtobe yeah I seen and tried them but personally I didnt like it, over all the sensation of fingers creep me out even when my midwife checks me lol. Thanks on the feedback tho :)
If you're worried about tearing, you can try perineal massage. Google it. Its just a gentle stretching of your 'area'. You can do it yourself, or have a doc/midwife or significant other do it.
Hmm I never thought about tearing naturally vs getting cut, thanks @abbb01
I had a epidural felt ALOT of pressure more than anything. If u have a doc that cuts I would insist on no episiotomy and just tear it does heal better and sometimes they can cut more than necessary. Amd when I was getting stitched I was too focused on my son (he had to get his lungs cleared he pooped inside me and cried as soon as he hit air)
Thanks @TA283 for the feedback :)
I don't think it would hurt as they'd surely take measures to numb you in advance, ie when they put my catheter in I didn't even feel it.
I had stitches after my daughter was born, it hurt some at first and I ended up getting three doses of lidocaine or whatever. I could still feel it but by then it was just like really soft pinching and tugging. Not really anything to fuss about.
Thank you @wishes2891 I just want to know what to expect just in case :) im sooo close to my due date :p
Unless they really really have to they don't cut you anymore. It's been proven to heal better if you tear naturally and if you're going pain med free you'll barely notice the feel of tearing bc you'll already be in pain. You might not even notice. As for when the stitch you up they'll administer a little local anaesthetic with a small needle so you won't feel it. Keep in mind too though you might not tear at all :-)
