Not a pregnancy question

So my 5 year old daughter has lice!  I've tried everything I thought they were gone but I checked today and I found one! Does anyone know of something that worked?

Wet her hair, SMOTHER IT in conditioner, get your headlice comb and COMB LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER COMBED BEFORE!!!

I mean literally, the comb should be full of conditioner with one stroke, cleaned with a tissue to remove eggs that may be stuck and then used for the next stroke.

I had to do this with my little sister. The conditioner meant the comb glided through her hair so she didnt fight, we made up songs, we even told the lice off! Lol

I shaved the back part of my head up because its just too long and thick to comb. You may want to skip this step lol

Someone told me that when you vacuum and Don't empty the bag or clean it out you can still get them.

See my 5 year old continued to get it also. Wash the entire house it seemed scrubbed her floor cause it's hardwood. The medicated stuff didn't work. Finally I bought pure tea tree oil and poor 2TBS in her shampoo, warm up pure olive oil and drench her head, put shower cap on and she runs and plays for 3hrs or so. The heat from her playing helps, then use a metal lice comb and wash her hair out with blue dawn. I do this every 10-14 days. Its helped big time treating her hair that often. No issues since we started this. Good luck its frustrating!

The key is getting the nits. Comb all of those out of the hair too. There should be no eggs at all. All stuffed animals and bed items should be washed and stuffed animals put in a garbage bag and sealed for a few weeks. These are so tough to get rid of

I had a friend staying with me and her daughter caught lice. We used the lice md products because it's less pesticides.  And sprayed the carpet with it and vacuumed.  And washed everything. And only had to do it once
Worked great

What you need to do is buy the OTC live treatment put it on the hair and leave on for 10 minutes then rinse and comb through. Vacuum the entire house, wash all sheets and blankets in hot water and anything that cannot be washed needs to be sealed in an airtight ziploc bad for 2 whole weeks. The next night you coat her hair in olive oil and leave it on for 8 hours while she sleeps and rinse out in the morning, this can be repeated every other day until day 7 when you repeat the medicated lice shampoo. You need to comb every day though for nits. Remember nots aren't live bugs they are eggs so its common to find them the first couple days after treatment. I am a PEDs nurse and have this combo on a weekly basis at minimum.

Thank you for all the advise! I've tried all the products in stores and they seemed to not go away! They are my new found enemy lol I just feel terrible for her but I don't let her see it because I don't want her to get sad. I will try some of these out thanks again.

Rosalie23 that is a ridiculously dangerous idea!!! Also you DO NOT need to treat anyone that doesn't actually have lice.

Another home remedy is mayonnaise.  Sounds weird I know but if you put mayo and let it sit for an hour it is supposed to suffocate them. We did it to my sister years ago and thats all that worked and was mucher safer since she was so young than aome of the other remedies

Don't know how u feel about this but if my daughter was 5 and could sit still u can use clear hair color from Sallys it will make her hair shiny but kill the lice also safe to use on everyone in the house with out a hair color change! Also find out where she's getting them from and have her coached "no brush sharing or pony tail sharing or any sharing of any kind" my daughter at 3 knows not to let others play with her hair or use there grooming things!

Ok this is garrenteeed to work but it will sound crazy. Kerosene works no doubt. I had it as a child and my mom tried everything even quail shampoo from the Dr nothing worked. She heard about the kerosene and tried it and it worked. You can also do baby oil and leave it on for 3 days it's best to wear a shower cap. Plus remember you need to treat everyone's head and the entire house.

Olive oil lotion ( in hair aisle) pit lots in hair and put a shower cap on it all day them rinse and use comb to get everything out. I got it from my nieces in my first trimester and that worked perfect. I also use a tea tree oil shampoo everyday (helps with dandruff)

This sounds weird but go buy a bottle or two of literine. Pour it into her hair rap it in a plastic bag for an hour or two (longer is better) then go through it with a lice comb wash out blow dry get a spray bottle and pour Listerine in the bottle and spritz your daughters hair
