Opinions on IUD.

Has anyone had any experience with an IUD? I'm considering one for my arm or for my cervix, but I wanted to know other people's experiences. Thanks!

I had the Paragard. I didn't have any problems. I had it in for 6 of the 10 years I had it checked at every annual. My periods were regular my cycle was and has always been 3-4 days. I did not have any cramping and before i had it inserted i never had cramping either.
I had mine removed a month before I became pregnant.

Know that all of our bodies are different, choose what will work for you. I don't have to worry about birth control this time because my husband is getting a Vasectomy.

I had the arm one and loved it. No period, weight gain, acne. After having put in took a few days for it to settle but then forget about it for 3 years. Mine was easy to get in as well as take out which i was nervous about. Took me 2 months to get pregnant after having it out after full 3 years. Defiantly having another after baby born.

I had an iud, the mirena it was awful...it made that time of the month 10times worse for me, heavier bleeding and more severe cramps. It make sex painful for me and my husband. And make me feel awful randomly with much pain..I wouldn't ever recommended it to anyone..

I had the Mirena for the full five years it definitely made my cramps during menstruation a great deal worse. I also had awful cramps for a couple of days following my period. The worst part though was that when Mirena was removed I bled horribly bad for about 9 days following the removal. U had clots the size of tennis balls not exaggerating. I would not recommend the mirena to anyone!!! My experience was awful.

I had it for 2 years (the Mirena). It was great, no periods, no cramping, no nothing. Then I started noticing that I was having daily severe migraines. I had been the whole 2 years, but never realized it was linked to the birth control. I scheduled to have it taken out and the hell story began. After about 30 minutes of scraping at my cervix to no avail, they had to give me 3 shots into my cervix to numb it so they could stretch my cervix open and dig into my walls to remove the mirena which had implanted itself deep into my walls. It was HORRIBLE! Mind you, I felt EVERYTHING because the numbing shots didn't work. Plus, I nearly passed out from an anxiety attack while on the table because of the severe pain. Never again...

I've had 3 and I only had issues with my last one. It was definitely not placed correctly and that was the worst month ever! So I took it out but my other 2 were really nice. I didn't even have cramping after they were placed. I will definitely be getting another one placed after this pregnancy.  Everyone's body will react differently to all birth control but it also depends on the dr who places it. If they don't do it right you have more of a chance of complications.

I had the copper one for 5 yrs after I had my son 12 yrs ago. After the 5 yrs with no problems it started to slip and I had it removed. I noticed a lot of pain on my left ovary and had an ultrasound. The Dr told me I had an ovarian cyst. Possibly could have been from the IUD. after being on the pill for a while I got the mirena and was sick and crazy hormonal all the time. I had that removed and got the copper one again to notice it just created pain in my uterus and never felt right. It works for some ppl but not everyone :/

I had the Mirena, put in at 7wks post partum. It hurt like hell being put in cause my uterus had flipped n cervix was upside down.  Bled from Aug till Nov then stopped no periods no complications had it in from 07-10, had it removed had a miscarriage n '11 another in '13 (wasn't ever really trying to conceive) n and currently 28wks. If I wasn't sure this is my last I'd get another one however I'm getting tubes tied.

Six weeks after putting the mirena, it went through my uterus and sat up top. It hurt like hell.  I had go under surgery for it to be taken out. I had to pay a lot of money bc medicaid didn't want to cover it. But I honestly think I should of waited a little longer before putting it in. My sister had both the mirena and the copper and she loved both and no problems, but she said she like the mirena more. I am thinking after this baby I will get a mirena. U would think after going through that I wouldn't want it lol.

Haven't had one myself but I have had friends who recommend the nuvaring. It is inserted into the uterus for 3 weeks and removed on the 4th. The hormones go directly to the uterus and ovaries and not throughout your body like the pill.

And honestly I hear women getting pregnant with the IUD mirena all of the time...it can also cause infertility, ovarian cysts, miscarriage...my dr said the most effective birth control for me (I have endometriosis) is the pill and he said it works really well

I had copper iud and would not reccomend. I thought it was non hormonal.. which it is, but the copper causes your body to respond by producing extra hormones. It can also expel an existing pregnancy should it fail to prevent and I am incredibly disappointed that they did not disclose this information to me as I am strictly and only interested in prevention. I was lucky to not share the horror stories of many. I have not been tested for heavy metals but I hear that copper toxicity is common as well. Last but not least, it caused me to hold onto the baby weight and made my periods so unbeleivable heavy!

do not get an IUD my sister had one for a while and she had a recent experience that almost landed her in hospital all due to some rough sex. Her husband knocked it too hard and it sent it in to the side of her uterus she was extremely ill luckily there was minor damage and minor swelling if it had been in there any longer, cuz she didn't realize what it happened it would have been much worse and she did have to get a shot for an infection that I guess its cause when it comes in contact with your blood. If you want to do something like that look into the Implanon May have another name like explanon it's a small piece of plastic that they put in your arm it lasts 3 years I absolutely loved it.

Don't! I got the IUD in my cervix and it caused so much severe pain! If you get pregnant it is extremely dangerous for the baby...my sister-in-law had so many serious issues with it...I didn't have a good experience with it and everyone I know has also had a negative experience with it as well...I've heard nothing good about it
