Please help! Esteroid shots on week 35!

Hi ladies!
I'm 35 weeks pregnant. this is my second pregnancy and I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes

Had lots of contractions yesterday night, over 2 hours, and brown discharge today. So I went to the doctors today and said I cervix was effaced  and dilated 2 cm. since the gestational diabetes and that im still 35 weeks doctor said I should get steroid shots.
Has any of you experience with these shots? I read online they are to use for premature babies before week 32, not later, they could harm both of us.
Please help!

Incidentally I just had a quick search online and I couldn't find anything suggesting it was unsafe after 32 weeks.  They are normally given between 28-34 weeks because after 34 weeks the babies lungs are going to be fairly well developed anyway, in which case the steriods won't really make much difference - but it's not actually harmful.

I got them when I was pregnant with DS as I had placenta previa. I was 34w.  He was born exactly 37w, and was absolutely fine.

It's to help the babies lungs. I got it at 30 weeks because I went into labor. Now we check for practice breathing every week and yesterday he wouldn't stop. Lol. But it's just a precaution. If your doctor says get it then get it.
