Make sure to tell your doctor that you are taking it.  I feel an appropriate relationship with our doctors is one  in which we can question them, ask them to explain, come to an agreement but know that it is important for women to work with their doctors for the best care.  Again, as a general rule, we are a support site and encouraging trust in our care providers is important.  So, let your doctor know.  And I agree that you should be officially diagnosed.  Scoop a stool sample. Or 'catch' it.  That's what we had to do when being diagnosed with the parasite that I mentioned. Certainly not glamorous but being properly diagnosed is an important step.

Wishing you all the best hon.  good luck

Are you positive you have worms, have you seen them in your stools? If they tested your stool and nothing came back then maybe you are just a bit paranoid. A lot of times in pregnancy you get soft stools and it can seem like you have something going on

Please stop feeling nervous or guilty. This is not a drug that causes defects or unknown problems, it's just a bunch of minerals that boost your health.
The only reason you might stay off it in first trimester is because DE is a natural detoxifier which is great. But huge amounts of it in an unhealthy body (like any detoxing food) could release toxin by-products. In very rare circumstances this could cause effects like severe headaches, stomach problems, rashes etc and to be on the safe side, any detoxes are not recommended in pregnancy, particularly first trimester, so your baby doesn't absorb vast amounts of toxins. In second trimester your baby is a sturdy little thing, not a bunch of microscopic cells anymore so the danger is much lower and they are now able to handle waste products with their own system. And at 1/2 a tsp a day that is a perfect way to ease into it, it won't act like a drastic detox (normal dose is 2 tablespoons). And if you do notice any reactions, which would be pretty rare at that dose, just reduce the dose further.

Remember your choice is baby missing out on nutrients due to worms, or your baby at risk of absorbing the small amount of waste product in your blood. Using DE carries tiny risks, and not worming carries tiny risks. So you may as well pick the one that will rid you of worms and make your body function better long term which is better for you and baby in the long run!

I think you have to be in the situation to take it , it's easy to say don't but when you feel disgusting and embarrassed it's a horrible situation , I took a half tea spoon for the last two mornings , I might just contuine it for the two weeks as another member suggested
I'm so nervous and feel so guilty in terrified something will happen to my baby , I will stop it . Iv given up cigarettes , and alcohol during pregnancy , then this happened - I feel I can't enjoy my pregnancy with these horrible things

You're very polite. I appreciate that. I'm just really disgusted lately (especially on this forum) by doctors pretending they know all and giving out advice or treatments that are not evidence-based and messing with people's health and safety (or in this case pronouncing a natural treatment as unsafe before they've even looked up what it is. And you are entitled to your opinion on listening to medical professionals, but I don't at all advocate listening completely to one doctor as I never would myself. I have my own brain. If others trust their own brain enough, I would recommend they use it. Doctors, naturopaths, midwives, chiropractors, OTs, physios and other specialists are great for second opinions or backing up my thoughts, but they will never be my first and only resource when looking after my own health.

As a general rule, a patient should work with their doctor on medical concerns and address questions that they have to their doctor.  This is a member to member community in which people give their opinions but that is not the same as getting professional medical advise.  I would not advise overruling your doctor but rather address your questions about taking this product TO your doctor for clarification.  Wishing you the best of luck sweetie.  I'm sorry you are having to deal with this.

I have never dealt with this or even heard of someone having worms during pregnancy. I'm so sorry must be awful but I have to agree with special mom. Even if ur going thru a lot if your doc told u not to take it, I wouldnt. There r some medical issue that can be taken care off once the baby is born. Unfortunately it's an awful one but the negatives on take care of it now might be worse. Maybe it didn't affect some other babies but it doesn't mean that it won't affect your baby. I wouldn't take the risk. If my doc said no then it's no to me.

We need to be mindful that no one here is a doctor and your best source of information is your care provider.  Good luck to the poster.  I was in the same boat w a parasite and my doctors advice saw me through.  I wish you the very best.

Yeah, a lot drs don't want any liability so any natural thing or alternative medicine they will be against. Most are quacks. Not to say that my brother in law is one, being an ER doctor... But yeah.

They've prescribed stuff that I research to be unsafe. Many also have different opinions as to what is safe and not for pregnant women.

Had to be food grade DE to be safe though.

DE contains silica so it's great to use even throughout the entire pregnancy. Parasites, or what have you can safely be cleared. Better hair, skin, nails, vitamin absorption since it helps move the junk in there. Since I've been having more time in the mornings and remembering my DE in the morning the past few days, my nausea has been cut in half or almost gone, which a blogger would use bentonite for as well.

Good luck with clearing the worms!

Eat roasted pumpkin seeds everyday for a couple weeks. Doesn't have to be a ton. Just a serving size. Will work and is safe.

When my family had been exposed to parasites (long story but when they say don't drink the water, don't wash the salad fixings in it either!  75 of us at a family reunion got parasites---  ugh), I took a stool sample in.  So, if you have a sample where you say you see them, fish it out, wrap it and take it to the office for analysis.  Then it will be fact that can't be disputed.

I certainly understand how you feel.  You know, actually when my family had the parasites---  my one year old, my husband and myself, I also had a newborn that I was nursing.  My husband and one year old took medicine to rid them of the parasite but since I was breastfeeding, my doctor didn't want me to take it.  I didn't as I do believe in following doctor's orders.  The parasites were gone on their own after a period of time.  So, in a small way, I can relate to the feeling of wanting them gone.

I just would not recommend disregarding your doctor's medical advise.  What if . . .   just what if . . .   you had an issue from taking the product?  One person's experience does not mean it will be yours as we all react differently to things.  I would be very careful about using the internet to self treat yourself especially when pregnant.

Hang in there.  good luck

Seeing that this is pin worms and not a tape worm.  :>) Well, that is better but still . . .   what is the suggestions that your doctor has given you?

Again, If your doctor has advised against this product, I would not override that and just self treat.  You need to take medication whether natural, OTC or prescription under doctor's guidance and supervision especially when pregnant.  good luck hon

Hi there.  Wow, that is really a amazing that they feel you have a tape work hon.  I've never had a tape worm but have seen pictures.

Please take your medical advice from your doctor hon.  That is your best source of information.  If your doctor said they do not want you to use a certain product, I would work that out with them.  Important to remember that your pregnancy is supervised by YOUR doctor that is responsible to you to provide your health care.

Ask your doctor what options you have and go from there but my recommendation is to work through this with your doctor or as destiny2015 suggests with a specialist.  good luck hon and sorry you are dealing with this

I think your doctor has no valid reasons then. No, it can't harm your baby and it is very safe for pregnancy, I bought food grade online. I used it at end of first trimester even though specialist suggested to wait, I just couldn't stand the worms. My baby was fine. I mixed one teaspoon into a glass of water (with a little cordial because it tastes awful), and drank it first thing every morning for 2 weeks. Worm symptoms disappeared after 3 to 4 days but I kept taking it for 2 weeks to make sure. 26 weeks is absolutely fine to take it :)

She advised not to use it because it was bought of the Internet and wouldn't like to put it into my system
Did you use it ? Did it have any bad effects in your baby ?? I'm 26 weeks by the way

Only used diatomaceous earth which worked well. Did your doctor give any proper reasons other than she's never heard of it so can't advise it? My naturopath/fertility specialist said it was ok for 2nd and 3rd trimester, and probably fine in 1st but she'd wait just in case.
