Wrong transvaginal ultrasound?

Hi. I was just wondering if the result of my transvaginal ultrasound was wrong. I had the first day of my last period on march 23 which lasted for about 4-5 days(march 26-27). I had sex on the 10th of april. I had taken a home pregnancy test on may 7th (due to a missed period on april ) and it turned out to be positive. So i went to an OB for the first time (ever!!) on may 17th and she did a transvaginal ultrasound. She said that i was 5 weeks 6 days pregnant. There was a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no heartbeat yet. I was just wondering how could that have happened? Based on my computation i should only be 5 weeks 2 days. Could the gestational sac be bigger that it should? Could the OB be wrong? Or should i go for a second opinion?

By the way i also have irregular periods. Most of the time i am a week delayed if that helps.

Has anyone experienced this too? I am so worried and stressed out about this. I keep on thinking that there's something wrong. Please help.

It's only a few days of a difference between yours and theirs so yeah it's probably add-tin like everybody is saying just the timing of ovulation is a little off.

Calculating your due date by your lmp is some wat of a "gestimation" based upon your ovulation time (14 days from the first day of your last period) but every girl is different so your due date is officially and most accurately set by your first ultrasound...Try not to stress to much and please keep us updated...Prayers for you and your lo :)

Yes they can be wrong, but at the same time I conceived this baby during a period (I didn't think that could happen until the doctor told me so). Just wait until the baby is a little older and when they readjust your due date. You'll know when you actually conceived. Congrats momma of baby!!

Thank you. Hope everything goes well. My next schedule at the ob would be on the 31st of May. It's going to be the longest week of my life!! By the way, do they just compute the lmp on a transvaginal u/s or the size of the sac? It's my first pregnancy you see so i have no idea what's going on.

Let me start by saying im not by any means trying to be negative or harsh and I dont want to scare you but I had a similar experience in 2011. By my calculations and the health department calculations I was supposed to be 9weeks so I went for my first ultrasound and they found that I had a sac but didnt see a baby and couldn't find a heartbeat and according to the ultrasound I was only measuring 6weeks. They did blood work and I went for a second opinion and it turns out that I should have been 9 weeks but my baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and a couple weeks later I miscarried...Now with that being said I am not by any means insinuating that this will be your outcome as well. Ive heard of MANY women having this same issue and it was only because they were to early for the ultrasound to register and their babies were just fine. I just wanted to share this with you because I like you was worried to death and asked others for advice and based solely on the positive stories I got my hopes up only to be crushed when I found out the truth...I wish you the best of luck

It's possible that you ovulated at a different time which could throw off your numbers just a tad bit. The transvaginal ultrasounds especially at this point are most accurate. Try to relax. They'll check again once your far enough to get a visual heartbeat. Good luck.
