Honestly, if you are taking a quarter of the lowest dose, it probably won't have much effect. But also if you are taking such a low dose, it'll be much easier for.you to get off of it. I took .5mg xanax in my first pregnancy but similar to you, I cut them in half and even quarters and did not take them everyday. My OB just said that if it was doable, to just stop taking them. If I needed help, there was alternative medicine. But I stopped with no problem. I believe the last one I took was about 12 weeks gestation.
*fetal malformations in first trimester, withdrawal symptoms in infant if taken during third trimester.
And yes sudden cessation is linked with miscarriage, but it is safe to wean off of it gradually. And you are on such a low dose would probably be fine anyway
I take low-dose xanax twice daily for pain (I have fibromyalgia and weirdly it is the only thing that helps). When I found out I was pregnant I had the same question as you. Although my psychiatrist has seen women take low doses during pregnancy and have perfectly healthy children, the two Ob's I spoke with were adament that I get off xanax immediately. I did quite a bit of research and found that xanax can be linked with fetal malformations and withdrawals if taken in the third trimester. However, this seems to be limited to higher doses than you are talking about. Unfortunately, neither of the ob's would even have a discussion with me about dose. It was a flat out no, which I personally find kind of short sighted, but I know they have my baby's best interests at heart. So here is my totally non-professional advice: If you can get away without the xanax do it. Try your hardest. But if you can't and are going to have panic attacks and whatnot find a psychiatrist that will have a realistic conversation with you about your options. Anxiety is not a joke! Also, if it is sleep that is a struggle for you try unisom (doxylamine succinate). It is an over the counter sleep aid safe for use during pregnancy, and just half helps me fall asleep. I hope this is helpful and the best of luck to you!
Yeah I'd say this is one for your ob for sure
