bacterial vaginosis??

So my doctor calls today to tell me I have bacterial vaginosis...tells me that it can cause preterm labor..so im like okay.  She says the antibiotic thet can treat it is called flagisil ( or somthin like that) well I find out that BV can also cause miscarriage. Now im freakin out because thay said I cant take the antibiotic until my second tri.because its bad for the baby in the first trimester.   Why would they want me to wait instead of giving me a different antibiotic to treat it that I could take now?

I am finishing up 10 days of metronidazole (generic flagyl) for bv. I found out I had bv because I started having contractions. I'm 23wks today. I was told it is a very common infection and it is easily  contracted. Not only I but my partner needed to be treated because it can be passed back n forth, but it is not an std. I am a registered pharmacy tech and looking in my pill description book it says nothing about causing miscarriage. It is a strong antibiotic and its main use is for bacterial infections.

At first they said I was 7 weeks..did an early u/s because I also have endometriosis and I measured 6 w1D. Ive had BV before..it seems like almost every time I get a pap I have...im not sure whats causing it. I tried calling my doc to ask questions but im still waiting for a call back.  Before pregnancy they treated it with clindamyacin because Im allergic to alot if antibiotics out there ( mostly pinacyllan and cephalexin and anything with a base). Im also wondering if increase in discharge could cause bv. Because since ive found out I was prego it feels like a waterfall down there. Is there alot of differnt things that cause bv? Im just so nervous to wait until second tri. Maybe im freakin out to much:/

I just got diagnosed with it today.  My doctor gave me metronidazole.  I also asked the pharmacist if it was safe during pregnancy just to double check and they said yes. They didn't ask what trimester im in (2nd)

Flagyl is one of very few antibiotics that will properly treat a vaginal bacterial infection, and I believe it's only of the only ones that's safe to take during pregnancy. BV will likely not cause a miscarriage unless untreated for very long periods of time. How close are you to your second trimester?
