breastfeeding while pregnant

I'm 7 weeks and I am currently breastfeeding my 18 month old. I been hearing from my family that I need to stop breastfeeding because it will hurt the new baby. I feel so lost because I thought it was ok. Is it really not ok??

I just weaned my 14 month old and I am 35 weeks tomorrow, so I breastfed him basically my entire pregnancy!! No complications of any type!! This is my 7th child, I also breastfed my other children in my pregnancies. I personally chose to wean because he was more interested in breastfeeding, more so then table food. He needs a bit more foods in his diet, although I have tons of breast milk in a deep freezer, so he gets the best of both worlds!! This is a new moderation world these days, there are very limited truth behind most of what you hear, example..how many cesarean deliveries you can have, breastfeeding in pregnancy etc. As long as your pregnancy is healthy with no complications and high risks that may risk such issues as preterm labor or serious medical conditions, then you should be just fine continuing breastfeeding your toddler in your pregnancy!!! I think it's awesome and I am sending a big high 5 your way ;)

That is not true at all! It will not hurt the baby. As long as your eating very well and taking your vitamins you'll all be fine :-) my mother in law breastfed my husband while she was pregnant with his sister. She breastfed them both to almost 18 months :-)

I have heard from my midwifes and lactation consultant that it is perfectly fine to breastfeed while pregnant. Some toddlers aren't a fan of it and self wean but your not going to hurt your pregnancy. Good luck momma!

I just talked to my midwife about breastfeeding while pregnant this morning and she said it is perfectly fine. She said people who don't know the facts think you need to stop, but that is not true. Personally I am breastfeeding my 22 month old and I am 14 weeks pregnant. If she doesn't self wean I'll be tandem nursing them in March! Good for you to be educating yourself and not just doing what others say. You are being a fantastic Mom and meeting the needs of both babies! :)

I honestly don't know the answer, I think a doctor would be the best place to get the correct answer. I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome you are feeding your 18 month old!!!!!!!! Good on you and I hope that if you want to continue that you can xx
