embryo without baby or heart beat :-(..any advice?

I went for my 8 week check up and they did a vaginal ultrasound and the tech said that she she the sac but couldn't see a baby or pick up a heart beat. She said I might be not as far as along as we thought I was but didn't tell me how far along I am. My last period was Jan, so it's definitely been 2 months. Have any of y'all had this problem? I haven't had any spotting or major cramping, im barely having any symptoms besides sore breasts and a little is of nausea..im pretty worried and uneasy about not sure of what's happening.  Any insight? I did some research and what I mostly saw was miscarriage. I'm supposed to go back for a physical and do another ultrasound, but im really nervous .

You might have gotten pregnant just before your February period, which would put you closer to 4 weeks.  Hopefully you'll be able to see something by the time you get your next ultrasound.  I think AnnieBrooke is right about the tests, since hCG rises quite rapidly during the first trimester.

It could be a chemical pregnancy followed immediately by a new pregnancy, thus making you only 4 weeks along instead of 8.  Get two beta hCG tests 48 hours apart.  If the blood levels are doubling or near doubling, then you have normal pregnancy progression and you probably are not as far along as you think.
