My mom had all 5 of us natural and being a type 1 diabetic made us all 10 - 12 lb babies. She says it was way less painful than passing kidney stones. My mom is also a very small woman. 2 of us broke her hips and one of my sisters gave her a heart attack during birth but she says if she had the choice, she would choose natural again.

My cousin is in a lawsuit right now because of the after effects and displacement.

I've had two that worked great and two that didn't.  My back hurt for months after my last one and I still get back pain.  I don't think I'll even try with this one.  Natural does hurt but, in my case, it's typically over quickly and there are other options between  all natural and an epidural.

It's called s blood patch. I had to get it. I have had back issues ever since and spinal headaches. I won't be doing it again

I had a bad side effect, they placed it too high and it ended up giving me horrible migraines where the only comfort i had was laying down. They prescribed me caffeine pills and that didn't do anything, i had to wait a week to get a blood patch and them a couple hours later it went away!

When I had mine it only worked in one leg. But the doctors and midwives were quick to fix it so I was fine. My sister had it and had to have an operation a few days later where they had to fill the hole where they put first needle with her blood because they went too deep. can't remember what it's called tho. She hasn't had any back problems since though.

I had it twice and it worked great. The third time, the dr tried to put in in, and it didn't work out that way. As soon as she started to put it in I told them it was time to push and they rushed her outta the room and I was upset cause it was all natural and so painful.  The good thing is the pain was over as soon as baby came out and I don't remember the pain at all. From the tried placement of the epidural, I have had back pain. It's been two weeks since my youngest was born and my back kills me if I over do it. I've heard it can take a while for the pain to stop and I'm hoping it doesn't continue too much longer. Basically, don't wait to get one if you want one. I waited til after my water broke and I went too fast after that to try for one but I tried anyway and I regret it.

I didn't have any lasting side effects like the other poster said your legs may be numb for a bit after birth but how long that lasts depends on how early you get the epidural.

My question is; did any of you have side effects afterward? I hear some women complain of back issues after their epidural.

I'm one of the unlucky ones and it didn't work. They even tried removing it and putting in another one...that didn't work either :-\

I've had three. First two made labor so relaxed and calm. Third one failed and birth was so painful and stressful.
