ftm question breast feeding

Okay... Don't judge me for asking this, it's a sincere question! I am completely confused about breast feeding and how it works. Someone told me you don't produce milk until 3 days after your baby is born.. so my question is what does baby eat for those 3 days until the milk comes?:S

No not formula. Latch baby ASAP and please speak with a lactation consultant. Your baby's stomach will only be the size of a marble when it's born That's about a teaspoon. Your body will product colustrum for the time being until your milk starts to transition to mature milk. The more you latch baby the quicker your milk will transition. If you have anymore questions or need help I will help you inbox me anytime. Kellymom.  Com is a great resourceful website to go to about breastfeeding it helped with a great amount of my own questions. Breastfeeding is a wonderful experience, but the beginning can be hard for some. Keep in mind your baby will go through a growth spurt every 2 weeks for the first 8 weeks and will want room constantly eat for 3-7 days. Nurse baby as often as it wants especially during these growth spurts to keep up with production. If you can make it to 8 weeks it gets easier because the growth spurts slow and the feedings are as many still a lot but not as many. Also go to Walmart and buy some lanolin and use it before and after feedings to save your nipples from drying and cracking and never wash your nipples with soap it will crack your nipples. Your milk is an antibiotic in itself so it is a self cleaner for your breasts. When you get time check out Google and research the healing powers of breast milk. Lastly don't fall into the booby trap. Wait 4 to 6 weeks to make sure your baby won't get nipple confusion to offer a paci or bottle of pumped milk. And remember that if you do give a bottle at feeding time to pump right after. To know you are making enough milk and baby is getting plenty do the diaper count 5 or more means y'all are OK. I will stop Lol I can go on and on. My lo breastfed for 20 months I will be breastfeeding my new one when he arrives good luck and you can do it! Get as much advice watch videos on latching and holding. Take classes and read read read knowledge will help you greatly!

That isnt entirely true^^^^ your breasts will produce colostrum, its full of nutrients that ur baby needs! While breast feeding ur baby the colostrum that will trigger ur milk which csn take up to 3-4 days. Of course the hospital will give u formula but its up to u whether u want to use it!

So the colostrum will be good enough for the 3 days then? Or however long it takes for the milk to come. I've had clear fluid leak out and I'm 26weeks right now

You produce colostrum. Its all baby needs until your milk comes in. It takes a few days but don't worry about baby not getting enough.

Your body produces colostrum. It's technicallynot milk but it's full of nutrients and antibodies. And I'm not sure about the 3 days thing. And the hospital will only give you formula if you request it. most hospitals have a lactation consultant that will come and visit you shortly after you are settled into your hospital room and will help you with your first tries at breast feeding. And give you literature on it.
