I'm 41w4d and I'm just now contemplating induction. A baby will come when it's ready and just fyi your due date and the "weeks" system is not an exact science. Your baby could actually be 34w. Here in Texas they don't consider you full term until 39w because your conception date could go two weeks either way putting you between 37 and 41 weeks. Even at 8 pounds if your baby is born before 37w it's still a premie! And that will have long standing health effects on them. Me son was 8lb 10oz and was induced at 37 weeks because he was so big and my son has a heart murmur, respiratory and breathing problems, and learning and social disorders all related to being forced out early and being premature.

Wow, your baby is 8lbs already?! Usually if the baby is that big they will induce you early. I'm sure no earlier than 37wks tho or they'll consider performing a c section when it's time. I understand, I'm sure you don't want to push out a 10+ lb baby. Drinking pineapple juice helps, sex, and walking.

I'm 36 weeks myself and I'm not trying to start labor whatsoever because I'm so scared of my baby being technically a premie but I have been walking a lot until I can't walk anyone having sex to start myself dilating. I am getting induced in 2 weeks which will be 2 days before I am 39 weeks and I am ok with that

Wow... I'm 35 weeks but on bedrest.. praying each day to reach past 37 weeks To have a full term baby. No matter how much I wanna meet my lil prince I know it's better for him to continue to develop until he's ready to come into the world.. So I say be patient dear... And would only start rushing things after you hit the 37th week mark... In the end it's ur baby and totally up to you. Good luck

It occurs to me that my previous post could be construed as derogatory... it's actually a genuine question... I'm just baffled at how that could possibly be true, that you could think that a) 36 weeks is equal to nine months when clearly according to any calendar that's not the case and b) any pregnancy lasting more than 36 weeks is "overdue" when the March of Dimes and the ACOG are very clear that 37 weeks marks the earliest possible point of an "early term" birth and not until 39 weeks is a pregnancy classed as "full term".
There is nothing you can do that is proven to hasten the onset of labor. If the body is not yet ready, it will not happen without medical intervention. And if there is no immediate medical reason for induction, no doctor who's worth their medical license will induce labor of a preterm pregnancy.

This is your fifth pregnancy and you don't know that a healthy average pregnancy is supposed to last 40 weeks?

I don't think the state you live in has anything to due with it, medically speaking full term is 37+ weeks. Others are right that 36 weeks is premature and is definitely not overdue. I know it's tough to be patient when you are so close (I'm 38w 4d) but think of the health of your baby. Give them the time they need to finish developing.

37 weeks maybe considered full term but it doesn't mean they are fully developed, it just means they wouldn't stop your labour if you were to go into labour spontaneously (that's what we're told in the UK). Here they won't induce you before 41 weeks unless medically necessary either. You are 5 days away from being 36 weeks so your 12 days away from 37 weeks. Your baby would be premature if born now. If babies were completely developed by 37 weeks then all babies would be born then, some go to 42 weeks.

Why would you want to speed up labour? Your 35 weeks your baby is still classed as premature and if born now may need to spend time in NICU. Your baby still has alot of developing to do in the last few weeks, baby is definitely in the best place and will only benefit from staying put for as long as possible.
