insurance approve breast pump?

I have heard that some insurance's will approve a breast pump. I called mine and they said they cover all but $25. They didn't say what brand, just that my dr had to prescribe it to me and I had to send it off to another company. So my question is has anyone else experienced this? And is it a good pump? If it would be better to just buy a good double breast pump I will. I don't want a manual one or a single pump. Can I request what brand I want, or ask for a double pump?

I emailed my insurance & they responded with a list of companies to "order" from. There were then a list of pumps I could receive for free, but could also purchase accessories & what not. I got a medela double pump & paid nothing. Every insurance is different, but anything helps, even if you get it & buy your own, you could keep one at your work &/or use for travel.

I had my medela double breast pump 100% covered. I have Aetna. I just ordered from Byram Health and they check with your doctor for a script and it was mailed to me within a week or two. No leg work on my end - it was a great experience. I hear a lot of hospitals use Medela and it is a really good pump overall.

I work for an insurance company and your DR will prescribe you one but not a specific brand. Call your insurance back and have them help you find an in network medical supply company. You will then give them your prescription and choose from there. Hope this helps.

I have bcbs. The way I got mine was by finding out which store was the approved pump provider in my area (I had a girlfriend that worked for bcbs so she knew that info) then I went to there and picked it out. They do all the paperwork and submit it to insurance. I'm not sure if it matters if you had the baby yet or not to be eligible,  probably a question the approved store could answer for you.

Also how soon can I order it? Do I have to wait until the baby is born?

I didn't get a medella because none of the supply companies had one, but the one I got is really good.Double automatic breast pump and it comes with 6 storage bottles and a case to carry them in. I have blue cross blue shield and it was free.

I have Aetna and they approved a Medela pump in style completely. I went through SunMed to get it and they filed my insurance for me as well. Wonderful experience!

I didn't get approved for WIC.. but that would have been nice.

A back up one would be good, but I just wanted to know what my options were. Which ones to look at and have an idea of what I'm getting.

WIC loaned me one, that was covered by insurance.  But it was a single one.  A double one would have been nice.

Yea regardless of which one they give you even if you decide to buy one of your own, its always good to have a back up especially if its almost free like that
