pain in my ribs and upper back...

I have so much pain every day... including at night. It is mostly located in my upper ribs under my breast. It spreads to my back as wellt through my upper ribs.. I cry sometimes at work because the pain gets so bad. I cant get any relief. When I get home I have to cook dinner for my daughter and fiance. Then I lay on my couch. Which seems the only place I get some relief. When I sleep at night in my bed it is as if I have bruised ribs and cannot sleep at all. My doctor says this might be from me sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose from allergies that never seem to go away. Dose anyone have any idea how I can get some relief and sleep? I take claritin every day... only helps so much.  Im 27 weeks. Help!

Its called Rib Flare and is from the pressure if your uterus pushing your ribs apart, I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you about it. There isn't too much you can do other than take some panadol and try and wear comfy wireless bras. I have large breasts and thought they were what was causing the pain but turned out it was just another pregnancy related ache. I'm now 36weeks and since the baby has dropped I have now experienced ALOT of relief and it has all but gone now. Ask your fiance if he can organise dinner for a couple of months while you get past this point in the pregnancy. Hope it eases up for you soon, I definitely feel your pain! My issue is now lower back pain - so I've swaped one for the other!!

I've heard of the baby kicking so hard that they can bruise or even break the mom's ribs. At 27 weeks, though, I doubt he/she is strong enough yet to break a rib but may be bruised. It could be from coughing too, have you been coughing a lot? I see that a lot in the hospital, but you really need to be coughing a lot. If its a pulled muscle use a heating pad. If its a broken rib, use ice. Try to rest when you can.

Im the same but in my case its my babys legs weight on mine. If I ever feel the pain the worst thing for me is sitting up straight! I put my arm in air and lean it over other side few mins and do same with the opposite afterwards.  I also bought like a breastfeeding pillow like the half moon ones to support my back and stuff at night...you can position it anywhere. So helps!

Have you checked your bras? An underwire could be digging in and causing bruising.  Try having yourself fitted at a store. Also pay close attention to how you're sitting and standing throughout the day to compensate for your belly, it may be straining your upper back or slouching your ribs into your gut. Im sorry you feel so bad. I think a pregancy massage is in order
