I'm surprised they have you on Suboxone and not Subutex (Suboxone contains buprenorphine and Naloxone. Because Naloxone can sometimes cause symptoms of opiate withdrawal, which could cause miscarriage, pregnant women are normally advised to take Subutex - exactly the same as Suboxone, but without Naloxone, instead.)
Either way, at present, Buprenorphine is listed as a category C drug for use during pregnancy. This, in the case of Suboxone, means that although scientists think it's probably OK – enough study has not yet been done proving that this is so, therefore the manufacturer does not recommend that it be used during pregnancy.
All THAT being said, I was on Subutex with my last pregnancy, and chose to breastfeed as well while on Subutex maintenance. My son never exhibited any w/drawl or NAS symptoms at all. I was def afraid of my son having those issues, then figured it was more likely to happen to those babies who are exposed in the womb to a high dose and then "cut off" abruptly at birth.... same as we would go through! That's why I chose to BF, he'd get the tiny amount that passes thru the milk while he tapered off both the boob and the subutex. It worked out great for us. He's a happy, healthy, so so smart 5 year old now! Good luck! And def bring up your concerns with your docs and your OBGYN!
Hey baby girl I'm to your rescue I used to take Saboxen before our got pregnant but now I take sebutex 8mg it's the same thing except it doesn't have the blocker and your baby won't be withdrawing from it, actually the genetics counselor said the sebutex is much safer and better and they have something they can give him/her when they come out time and they'll be ok. So ask you Saboxen doctor if you can switch to sebutex and keep u at 8 mgs and there smaller and taste better then Bups so good luck and Congrats let me know what u think!!
I haven't gone through that but how far along are you? and what are you getting off of?
