question: work and medical leave

Okay so I can see my schedule out through my due date. Not all my shifts are posted but I can see my approved time off and what not. So today when I looked at the schedule, there is a note from my supervisor stating the start of my medical leave on my due date. Can they refuse to let me work and force me into medical leave like that? I thought I was the one who decided when that happens not them.

It depends on your state.  In CA, paid maternity leave can begin (if u choose) at 36 weeks based on your due date.  These 4 weeks before cannot be saved and used after.  Check your state laws.

It's just an unpredictable time so it's hard to write a schedule when you don't know what might happen each day. Good news though, they cannot force you or deny you work leading up to the birth of your child unless your doctor tells them otherwise.

It does! Thanks. I was just worried they weren't gonna let me work if I go later.

Your maternity leave technically starts the day you have your baby. They have to put your due date as the start for now because that's all they can go by. If you are late or early, they will change the start date. It's up to baby on when your maternity leave will start. You can take vacation days leading up to or not, that is up to you. Hope that helps.
