yucky kinda question

Can anyone suggest something that works good and is safe for constipation while pg? I know its normal and it comes with the territory of being pg, but I swear I havent been able go more than a rabbits droppings at a time in weeks, and only like once a week. Sorry for the tmi, but I need to try something. I been tring to drink alot of water and all but I guess I need something alittle more than hydration. Any ideas?

i use prune juice. it tastes kinda yuckky but if u pour it in the cup and chug it down like alcohol u dont taste it (Dont breathe before u swallow). then chase it with something tastier lol. My dr says you can use a stool softener but no laxatives. I found the prune juice works fine and has some nutrients in it also, which is a plus

my OB suggested to try laxatives and/or to eat foods that contain calcium, magnesium, and to eat lots of fiber like fruits and vegetables as well as 8 glass of water each day. Avoid caffeinated drinks/food like soda, coffee, and dairy products.

Prunes ( pitted and semi dried plums)  are natural and work well with drinking lots of water. They have lots if fibre.  You can find them in health shops like whole foods

Im a vegetarian and have no problems so far..try eating oatmeal or shredded wheat on the mornings..it keeps you full for longer too. Add more veggies to your meals.. Also drink lots of water to help soften stuff.

I get frozen broccoli & put some Soyvey or regular soysauce with a small pinch of sugar to offset to saltiness & microwave that together for a snack.

Good luck!

If you are looking for a medicine free way: Water is good!  Drink strong apple juice (don't water it down - but that will have a lot of sugar, so watch the sweets in everything else you eat) and eat prunes or cherries.

I'd stay away from bananas and refined wheat (like white bread and too much pasta) because they will make it worse! (You give a child with diarreah the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, and white toast - so that can't be good)

Colace or any stool softener is good. I take it every night and it seems to be helping. You can also try more fiber and more water, but really its just one of those less than pleasant Prego things. Good luck!

I hear colace works great. Its a stool softener and is on my list of approved medications during pregnancy.
