Has anyone missed their period, had a neg test, and went to doc. If so, why did they say you missed your period and not pregnant?

My last period was April 21 (Wed.) - April 25 (Sun). I am almost always every 28 days never been late or missed (have been early). My boyfriend and I had sex on April 26 (Mon night) before he left. We didn't before that because I was on my period and didn't after because he left town, so this is the only possible day for this cycle. The condom broke, but he told me that he didn't come and we stopped. We went to bed and it never crossed my mind until Thursday (May 20) when I realized that I still haven't had my period. My period should have been on May 18 (Tue) and today is May 22 (Sat). I took a first response pregnancy test yesterday, it says it can tell 6 days before your missed period, but it was negative. I feel comfortable with the results (6 days before missed period and I was 3 days late)because it wouldn't make sense that I am pregnant based on what I know. But I'm going to retake it next Friday (April 29) if I don't get my period and schedule a doctors appointment hopefully the next Friday (June 5) either way. Hopefully it comes soon, should I still contact a doctor if i get my period soon because it's suddenly unreliable or wait to see how the next period goes? Do I contact a general family doctor if I'm not pregnant or do I contact a gyno either way? At that point it would be very late and something must be wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's possible but unlikely for me to be pregnant. For me to be pregnant it would be from precome that came out of the condom when it broke. Neither of us would know at that point? I know sperm can live usually 2 or 3 days and possible 5 days (but unlikely) in a woman. I know that most, but not all people ovulated 14 days from their period. Under normal circumstances- If any super swimming (precome) sperm swam than it would have died (April 28 - May 1) by the time I ovulated (May 5). I would have had to ovulated early and his sperm would have lived the max amount of time for me to be pregnant. I just don't understand where my PMS is and where my period is. I didn't have much (if any) stress before this. I haven't gained or loss weight. I haven't exercised any more or less than normal. I haven't had any medicines or anything. I haven't been with anyone else. And I have the feeling my period isn't coming because I have an achey feeling in my lower abdoment (probable from this), I'm tired (haven't been sleeping well), but no other PMS. I always have a back ache and cranky. Anyway, has anyone completely missed a period? Has anyone been late and not pregnant? What should I do.

Its completely normal to miss a period but make sure u have a period every three month. Your dr can give u medicine to force a period, is not good to not bleed for three straight three months bc this may clogged up your uterus lining.

About your preg question. I can tell u for sure u are not preg based on the date u had sex. Relax, stress can cause a miss period too.

Thank you for sharing. I hope your ok now, ConnieG. And thanks for easing my mind, LosingMyMindInGA. After reading it was normal to miss a period and not be pregnant. I decided to try and get rest and took a nap. I didn't sleep well because I was asleep but thinking of what I was going to tell people if I was. It was still in the back of my mind because of what happen last month, even knowing it was possible but unlikely. My dog and neighbor kept waking me up, so I never finished my dream to know what I would have said but I wish I knew what I would have said to people. I am curious now. But after I woke up, I went to the bathroom and I think my period is coming. I have never been so happy. It was a little different than normal, but maybe its because it is lighter or from being late. It usually darker red and this time it was bright red. Maybe fresher because I usually start at night. Oh well, I hope this helps someone else know there are other reasons beside pregnancy to miss a period or be late. I hope other people do post reasons they missed their period and werent late to help others. But I should be find and if not I'll post anything I find out.

Mine was because of cysts. I have polycystic ovaries. Hope that's not the case but they can see it in a sonogram.

LOL.  I think a lot of the women that never come back to comment on missed cycles is becuase they really never figured out a reason.

Oh I see your point, so if I was fighting off a really bad flu (or something) than it can mess up my cycle if its a strong flu (or something) and if my body did a really good job fighting than I'd never see the symptoms of the flu. I haven't been around anyone sick, but that doesn't really mean much. So, I wouldn't get a period because it would need to recover from woring so hard or it is working on fighting it. I shouldn't worry unless I miss three cycles? That would make sense- if you missed two and no one was concern. It doesn't feel like it's coming and I feel fine except a little tired and a little ache in my lower abdomen. Maybe I'm fighting a stomach flu and that's why my abdomen aches and I'm tired.

I highly doubt I'm the exception to the rules. I don't think I am pregnant. I just see a lot of woman talk about it and never come back to say why. LoL. It would be too many exceptions for me to be pregnant. The expection being his sperm lived longer than normal, I ovulated before normal, and first response can tell 6 days before a missed period but can't tell me 3 days after a missed period. The baby wouldn't be letting me see any symptoms or discomforts. That baby would have worked really hard to be created.

Even something so simple as your body fighting off a virus or infection that hasn't gotten far enough along to cause symptoms can alter your cycle.  Many doctors won't even do anything unless you've missed 2-3 months...other docts won't until you've missed 6 months.

There have been cases, albeit very rare, of a woman being pregnant and NEVER gettign a positive urine test, only blood tests.

Our bodies are mysterious things and sometimes we just don't have an explanation as to why our cycles screw up.

I've never been on birth control, no stress, no illness, no medications (not even an asprin), and not sure what environment factors. So you missed your period for about 2 1/2 months and everything was perfectly ok and doctors didn't give you any reason. Well, thanks for telling me it might be normal. It's funny how I hate my period and I want it. It would be over today or tomorrow. In the back of my mind I'm thinking it's possible to be pregnant but not likely. And I don't want to worry him when he comes back.

I went 64 days last summer with no period. Had numerous negative urine tests, both home and docs.  Had a negative blood test.  Doc never gave a reason. The only thing I can attribute it to was the fact that I had gone off the birth control pill a few months before and my cycle had been doing wacky stuff like random 3 day bleeding, heavier or lighter periods etc.

sometimes our bodies just get a messed up cycle and it could be due to any number of things...birth control, stress, illness, medication, environmental factors.  It's pretty common to miss or have a delayed period and never know why.
