My OB says the risks of contracting swine flu far outweigh those that might be associated with the vaccine. Pregnant women are a high risk group because our immune systems are weaker while we're pregnant and our doctors might hesitate to put us on anti-virals if we get sick. The high fever can also affect the baby. Research also anticipates that if you get the shot, the baby will be immune to swine flu as well. So, while I'm nervous about the vaccine because it hasn't been extensively tested, I'm going to get it - just seems like the safest thing to do. I'll probably get the regular flu shot as well.
I think there's a higher chance of getting the flue with the nasal spray than with the shot. I know the shot is the dead virus, which is why I get it instead of the spray because of my heart.
I am terrified of both flus. I have never had a flu shot before but this is my first pregnancy. My only concern is that I have that the flu shot can make you sick sometimes. I go to the doctor again tommorrow so I will let you guys know what he says for me.
I'm probably going to get both. My mom is a nurse and she said I should get the H1N1 vaccine, but I will ask my RE as well when I go in for my ultrasound next week. I always get the regular flu shot as well, and will this time, but that's more because I have a pacemakre and my cardiologist says I have to get it.
Great question!!! I have also been worried about that too. I haven't had my first appt with my OB yet (it's later this week) but I do plan on asking about it. As far as flu shot goes, some docs say get it, others say don't... IDK I would just ask your OB and see how they feel about it. I'll let you know what mine says*** Good Luck
