Negative Test?

I know I should have waited for my blood test. But after a 5dt, I thought doing an hpt a day earlier would be OK.    Instead, I went through a whole day of thinking, "Why Me?"  I had such a positive experience using donor eggs, and we ended up transferring  2 good quality blasts.  How could this have all gone wrong?  My husband thinks that I drank too much water before my early morning test (which I did guzzle down a 16 oz. bottle in the wee hours of the morning to "prepare" for my hpt).  Is it possible that he was right?  Would drinking too much water dilute my hpt?  
Thanks for being there....All I want to do now is go to bed (at 5:30) and wake up  tomorrow for my blood test!
