testing pee at dr

i am going to be 8 weeks along on Sunday. Took 15 months to keep a pgcy this long. Sounds like a lot of dr's give a US to a lot of you early on. dr's around here don't do it unless there is trouble. No blood work till middle of pgcy but they do make you pee in a cup every time you go and i was wondering what they are testing the urine for. Do any of you know?  I havent went in for my first appt yet. seems kinds pointless until they can hear a heart beat.  because all they say around here is Yep ur pg take ur vitamins which seems like a waste of money. I have no spotting or cramping i feel great except for the huge expanding bust.  ha!
Good luck to the rest!

Well they listen to the heart beat so i don't see why they would need to test to make sure you are pg still.

hm strange.. yea every time wait for the dr then go and wait for the lab area. It gets sickening.  dr see you for 3-5 min sit for up to 1hr before getting to the dr, then sit for up to 30 min at the lab just to pee for a few seconds. Its nuts!

Wow, thats weird! I've heard of docs wanting to wait later for ultrasounds but they won't even do your bloodwork? WOW!
I think the urine tests are to make sure you're still pregnant.
Hmmm... if possible I would consult with another doctor. There are first trimester tests that should be done. (They take like 6 or 7 viles of blood)

I can only think that the urine test is to test for a positive. I never had to do more than the one test with my last preg. I hear ya with the not going to the doc until there is something to see/ hear. I went at about 6 weeks last time, had an US and heard the heartbeat and then lost the baby. It was devastating. I cant wait for the 12 week mark this time for better clarifications.
