I had the same issue
My son curb on April 27 th after a long lasting 24 hour labor with induction and emergency c section and u ended up with no milk production
He lost 11%birth weight so started him on formula. After we got home he would eat non stopfrom my breast but still constantly hungry. My Nipples were sore and bleed,it was very frustrating
Ended up with pumping every 2 hours, he is almost 4 weeks but my supply is about 10-12 Oz a day
I take fenugreek caps 3 caps three times a day
How often the pumping should be done i dont seems to get more than an ounce
I've exclusively breastfed for 5 weeks now and I'm going to be honest, its so hard to props to you for trying. My best advice, don't use formula, its sending your body the wrong signals about how much exactly your baby is eating.
Just breastfeed, if you feel like your baby isn't getting anything after awhile, switch to the other boob. Pump when they feel heavy and over a couple days your milk supply will increase because of the demand increase.
(I personally find it easier to feed from one breast a couple times to let the other one build up some milk. Then I'll pump the one that's built up a bit because my daughter eats about 4oz a sitting. Then I'll start over, this time feeding from the one I pumped originally, and letting the other build up instead)
Be prepared for growth spurts in about a week and 6 weeks, where babies clusterfeed like they did when they were first born. That's rough, but it only lasts 2 or 3 days.
If youre changing at least 10 diapers a day, with a decent ammount of wet and poopy ones, youre baby is getting enough to eat and after another week or so it'll get easier because you'll be so used to feeding, you'll know what your baby needs better than anyone.
Eat very healthy, I eat oatmeal in the morning & plenty of water and apple juice. Also pumping helped me as well
