Actually castor oil CAN and most likely WILL pass through the placenta as its a laxative. It is not proven to start labor. In fact the only thing it is proven to do is cause extreme discomfort, nausea, diarrhea and cramping. It also isnt proven to harm baby or mom but it is recommended that you avoid it.

There are studies I did my research for weeks and there is no proven studies that it passes the placenta. So no.

I read that castor oil is dangerous because it can pass through the placenta and cause to have first bowel movement in uterus. And that it is not proven to start labor but does have horrible side effects

I did it on my due date and the only reason I did was because I had just moved 2000 miles away and my new obgyn was saying my due date was off by 3 weeks. Bs no way was going to be pregnant for another month because they were idiots. She came out healthy and 6 pounds 3 ounces. Not a single problem

I read an article the other day written by 2 doctors about naturally inducing labour and it said there is no real proof that castor oil works to induce labour. But it will definitely give you really bad diarrhea and could cause dehydration

I bought mine at Walgreens. It's in the laxatives. I drank 2 oz with orange juice and had my daughter 4 hours later. It was fast and painful and I would never do it again.
