Baby naming problems

by YvetteY, Apr 15, 2009 06:21PM
My DH and I can't agree on any name for this baby.   One I like that he likes a lot and the other is okay and I can live with it but I do not love it.   In fact the names I do love, he hates.

So are you suppose to compromise and chose a name you like or can you just do an override if you can't completely agree on something????     Most of the time he doesn't like a name and it's a stupid reason, like it reminds him of some kid he didn't like during grammar school.

He's driving me nuts....he even thinks he should have an opinion as to what the crib looks like....ugh

So are you guys having easy times agreeing on a name with your DH???

DH and I cant agree either right now:( With our 1st DS we both loved the name he picked. 2nd DS I really didnt like either names we had picked and ended up letting our almost 3 year old DS pick out his name. 3rd DS I loved the name he found in a baby book, but changed my mind at the last minute and wanted to change it and he said no, everyone was already used to the name! I still had a month left before delivery, lol! This time around we are in the same boat as you:( We have a few names I like but nothing im in love with. UGH!! I would say compromise:) I will get the final say in this one, I just hope we can narrow it down to something I LOVE:) Good luck!! Finding the perfect name is hard:(

We couldn't agree for a while and finally one day it just came to us and we "knew".  The middle name we ended up naming after his deceased father and I didn't like it at first.  One day, for some reason it just all fit together.  Colter William is what we came up with and it just feels so right.  But remember....you still have time LOL!
Oh, and the struggle for us was DH didn't wan't to name the baby after anyone he ever know.  He is a 40 year old rodeo cowboy....do you have any idea how many people he has met in his life???  That made it hard LOL!

I know, it *****, arguing about names.  We have fought about our previous two sons' names, and ending up compromising as he hated the name I loved and vice versa.  I hated naming my child I name I *liked* but didn't *love*, but they grew on me over time, as is usually the case, I think.

Right now, I am p*ssed at DH for not heling me more w/ the kids-- we have baseball, T-ball, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts, I'm running 5 nights a week and he won't even "babysit", anyway, that's another post, LoL-- I'm about to tell him I am naming this baby whatever I want, since I'll be doing all the work anyway!  (I am only half joking-- I've had enough!)

He picked Lane as the middle name, which I like, and we both like Walker, though its not my fave.  I would prefer Sawyer Lane or Cooper Lane... we'll see!!

i know exactly what you are talking about.
With my first, he didn't like any name I liked, and i HATED the names he liked. There was only 1 name that fell on both of our acceptable lists, and he started to call the baby that a few months before she was born. I always liked the name, but once it was hers i loved it.

So, we have the potential to be in the same exact situation this time. I know where this is headed, and I think I've nipped it in the bud. He likes a name I am OK with, but I am doing a variation on it that I prefer. Today on the phone I used her name and told him I was getting her half of the room ready. He was a little surprised that I used the name but seemed to accept my variation. He likes Julia, but I have had a Julia in every class the past several years. Too common. I prefer Juliana or Julianna (they are pronounced differently), and he can call her whatever he wants :)
Now to come up with a middle name...

by pookie1121, Apr 16, 2009 05:17AM
your post could have been written by me :)

MY DH vetoes everything...but doesn't really come up with that many new names himself...and we are having TWINS.  Luckily we do have one picked out, but we are still missing another name.  Plus my DH is German and I am American and we live in Germany right now and we need that the names we choose are pronunciated in both English and German.

With my DD, we had a few names on the list.... when she was born, we chose Sophia. It was definatley not on top of his original list, but he agreed that she looked most like a Sophia.  So based on that, any name I love/like that he isnt crazy about but doesnt absolutely hate, I am adding to our "list" for the twins.

Julianna or Juliana are beautiful names.  I have a young lady named Julianna in class and she goes by Jul or Jules.  It is so cute, I love it!

I like Julianna too...it was vetoed by DH.      He's driving me nuts!   So the name thing is on the back burner because we can't compromise right now.....and DH is stubborn...he's still holding out for the 10% chance it'll be a boy. LOL!

I'm about ready to give it up.  I'm half tempted to let the baby pick out it's own name !!    We can call it baby for a while!!  LOL!

Seriously.....instead of my "baby shower" we should have a baby naming party....and pick my names against his names!!

There have been two girls names that I have always loved and that I had picked out for my other babies (19 and 14 years ago) ....I mean seriously I've been wanting a baby girl forever.  Don't get me wrong I love my boys, but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.

I was easy with my first baby since I was doing it by myself.  I picked out the names all by myself....I didn't have to "compromise"!     LOL!   Besides I'm doing all the work!!

Here are the names I've loved forever and keep in mind I have had these little girl names picked out since 1990!!

Gabriella Marie   (picked long before high school musical)  - he hates "Gabby"
Micheala Marie    - he just hates it!!

He thinks we should pick out a good old fashioned  American name....I said..."okay ding **** (not the word i used) there is no such thing as a good old American name....these names have been around long before America came to be!"

Here are the names he likes that I like (but I'm not loving them but can live with)

Heather
Nicole

Of course there are issues with those names too....according to him!   No middle names yet for those two.....I want Marie for a middle name but I just dont think it goes well with the first name!

And did I tell you he thinks he should have in put on picking out baby things!! Give me a break!  I just want your visa card baby!   LOL!     He's protesting the color pink!!   We tried to register and I brought him with me and we left after about 15 minutes because he was driving me nuts!    Men!!

I think he should just let me do what I want!!  LOL!

LOL!!! It edited  ding d o n g!

by tiredbuthappy, Apr 16, 2009 01:51PM
My grandmother's name is gabriella, and she is called Ella. Would he go for that??

by blueeyedtabbycat, Apr 16, 2009 02:51PM
LOL!! I think DH need to realize who is doing all the work here! I love your statement "I just want your visa card baby" Too funny!! Does he understand that "pink "generally means girl??
BTW I love the name Gabriella!! I agree with tiredbuthappy, cant he call her Ella?? It dosent have to be shortened to Gabby.
Again, Good luck:)

by YvetteY, Apr 16, 2009 03:17PM
Oh DH could just call her Gabriella.....but he's just being a poop!

And you know....I just dont' think there will be any bending with him.    Oh well!   Maybe I will come across another name that I love.

by Latrice414, Apr 16, 2009 07:23PM
Ummm Heather and Nicole, ummmm i dont love those either, they are likalbe.

Micheala is different and has a ring to it,  My best friend name is Eboness and we call her Abby for short. Gabreilla is not bad, but i like the other one.

Me and DF can not agree on a name either,  i gave him 15 names and he said no to all. He comes to me with 3 names and thats it.  At this point i think he is going to be mad bcuz i have 2 names picked out and think i will be going with if its a girl, Im sure the name will grow on him;|  Mackenzie/MaKenzie Symone first choice or Hailegh Symone

by YvetteY, Apr 17, 2009 11:16AM
Ooooh....I like Haileigh Symone...that's sooo pretty.....I like Mackenzie too.

Well we have agreed to get a baby name book and go throught that.   Hopefully we can broaden our options.    I knew this was going to be a challenge, but it's a bit more than i imagined.

New latest and greatest on DH ...he doesn' like names with more than two syllables!   Honestly this man is driving me crazy!
