Epidural or Taking it like a WOMAN????

by pat4rod, May 21, 2009 01:20PM
As far as I can remember I have had 5 epidurals and one natural and now still undecided. My boys are bigger and this is a boy. My last ds weighed 9.1 so kinda scared.

LOL at the title of your post. = )

I am doing it natural, I have with all of the past 3.

But I don't really consider it "taking it like a woman" since the main reason is I am **terrified** of needles. = )

Just FYI- I read something recently that said around 80% of all women these days get an epidural, which was shocking to me!!

I want to do it natural just I did with my daughter.

Personally, I think going through child birth with out pain medication is like getting a root canal without novacaine.  I dont' get the women who can go through childbirth with no pain relief or who want to for that matter.    To each his own, I guess.

I have done it both ways and I have to say I prefer drugs, lol! I was very proud of the fact that I had no drugs with my 2nd. I would have loved to try it with my 3rd also but when I into labor its generly active labor where I deliver in just a few hours, no building up:( This time around I am going in and ordering and epidural befor labor starts, lol. I guess I never thought of going natrual as "taking it like a woman" lol! But 100 years ago woman had babies all the time with no more than a shot of wiskey. I feel like woman today have it easy, but heck who am I kidding.........I like easy:=)

With my first I had an epidural and it was "God sent"!! I can't even imagine going natural, that is like asking to be tortured to me!! Well, since I needed a c-section after many hours of pushing, I am already scheduled for a c-section for this one.  So, yes I am getting a epidural for this section, but I am sure it will not be as heavenly as it was getting it with Cooper.

I want to do it natural. i ha surgerry befre and i hav spinal ,, i know epidural needle  is not going that deep but i am more scared of it then of doing it without, after spinal my back hurt for couple weeks and once i got panic attack so for me there is no choice:)

i have to have a c-section, since i had one last time. so it's a spinal for me. I was pleasantly surprised though. Last time i thought getting the IV was worse than getting the spinal.

I am not going to be drugged and partially paralyzed in a room full of people I don't know.  People have trouble believing that I can handle things, I think in part of my size (I'm 17, but if it weren't for the pregnancy I could probably get in to movies for the 12 and under price), and I'm not taking the risk of doing anything that might impair my ability to think or move.  If history is any indicator, any medical professionals present will be more than willing to completely disregard my wishes and do as they please if I'm not in a good position to not only argue but if need be physically move away.  Yeah...I don't trust doctors...

I dont consider no epidural "natural"... Natural to me is Vaginal Delivery(instead of a CS). I opted out of having an epi and went through 16 hrs of horrible pain with my 1st(what you're calling "natural") and it was HELL! I decided not to go through that again by the time my 2nd came along and I still went through 4 out of 6 hrs of hard labor pain, so it wasn't much different, but it was HEAVEN once I got the epi and I'll do it again. I don't consider having an epidural UNnatural by any means though. Like Yvette said, "to each their own" ... but why go through that pain if you don't have to? good luck!

That's what I think, why again been there done that. I have had 5 with and everything had turned out just fine. My kids are all as healthy as can be. With no problems during or after labor and I don't remember ever being partially paralyzed, I am pretty sure if I make it in time I will get my epidural.

I am going to have an epidural.  I am a big wimp when it comes to pain so any little thing that can help will be great.  I am going to try to start with it low so that I can do a good job pushing but we will see how that goes since this is my first.

Color me non-woman...lol. I had my first without the benefit of drugs. I was young and strong and had my mind made up. But forget that. LOL. I did it once, I'll never do it again. With my second I had an epidural and it was a God-send. I swear, I fell in love with the anesthesiologist. LOL. Ended up being a good thing I had it, because he got stuck for two hours due to large shoulders, and they had to cut me TWICE to get his big fat head out! I think I would have passed out without that epidural. So, yeah...I'm definately going the wimp route again and feel no shame whatsoever! LOL.

by Diabolicafemmia, May 23, 2009 12:32PM
I have to have a C  :( . Had 2 previous C's- and I NEVER dialated past 3 w/ either (I tried to do vaginal) what ***** the most is I had reconstructive surg after a car accident and I have mesh in my lower abdomen, so the peri said he thinks its gonna be a vert cut this time. GAH. Im going to look like Im a gutted fish!

I'll be having and epidural. I have done it both ways and the epidural is there to help ease the delivery for both mom and the baby. It takes alot of stress off the baby. I have had an epi before and believe me you can still feel the birth. It helps to ease the pain of the contractions leading up to the birth so that baby does not feel so much tension. If they have the technology to do it I say "why not"! Nothing against anyone who is not making the choice to have one but I say if it is there to help then count me in.......
