I did end up talking to the dr and they said the second stage formula has more calcium and thats about it. It's also less expensive so I guess that's a bonus.
check the labels. there is very little difference between the products, and it is a great gimmick by the formula companies to continue using their products past 12 months. That being said, there is no harm in putting her on it, since it is so similar to regular formula.
With my first, we did use formula past 12 months, maybe until 15 months or so, until she started to eat more table food. We did give some milk bottles starting at 12 months, but wanted to make sure she was getting the extra nutrition from the formula too. If I recall correctly, I just bought whichever I happened to grab- the regular or second stage.
Oh good to know. I'll probably call the dr then because since she got the tummy flu she lost weight and hasn't been putting it back on. She was only in the 10th percentile to begin with so I was cautious to switch her to a formula that might not have as many calories.
Thanks
I asked my doctor about it when Joel went in for his 9 month appointment and he said that the only reason you would go on that formula is if the baby isn't eating well. He said that as long as the baby is gaining weight like they should be then there is no reason to go on the advanced formula.
