confused over baby size???

hey every1,
Was wondering if i can get some advice, i am 34 wks pregs and at 33wks baby was estimated to be 4lb14oz on a scan i had, and the midwife and doctors said he was a big baby, at my midwife appointment she is also saying he is a big baby, yet my bump only measures 32wks, my biggest baby was 7lb10oz and i really struggled to have her my other child was much easier at 6lb8oz. i am concerned that this baby will be 2 big and i do not want to have a c-section so if baby was going to be much bigger than my others should i ask about being induced a bit early, baby is already head down and engaged which was suprising and i have a lot of pelvic pressure and back ache maybe this baby wants to come a bit early anyway, just not yet!!! i had steriod injections last wk due to prem labour which was stopped will they affect the babies weight?

Like trica said babies tend to gain about a half a pound a week untill delivery after 30 weeks and on average babies weigh about 3 pounds at 30 weeks. 4 LBS 14 OZS doesnt sound that big for your baby's age. But with any type of guess, u/s or having the doctor guess by feeling your belly, its just a guess and can be off. I suppose you already know that though, lol. I think thats funny that they told your sister that her baby would be 6 lbs and she had a healthy 8 lbs 15 oz baby:) At my 20 week u/s I was told my little girl was big too, 90%. Kinda scared me at first because my biggest baby was only 7.9 lbs, although he was 2 weeks early I thought that was big, lol. I am probably the only woman on here looking forward to having a big baby!!

Yeah, ultrasound estimates can be off. The morning I went into labor (at 36 weeks, 4 days), they did a sono to check fluid levels. They said my baby was 6 lbs 10 oz. Six hours later I was holding an 8.5 lb kid. LOL.

I agree that 4 lbs 10 oz at 34 weeks doesn't sound huge to me. My MD said that starting at about 30 weeks, they gain 1/2 lb a week...so you'd only have three more pounds to go if you make it full-term...that's not bad. At 30 weeks this time, they told me my baby is already 4 lbs 6 oz. I get another sono at 34 weeks, so I'm anxious to see what he is then!

As far as getting induced, I hear mixed stories. I was induced with my last because my water had broken and labor wasn't starting. It wasn't bad at all. They started the drip at 2:30 and he was born at 6:30. My MD will likely induce me at 37-38 weeks this time so I don't have a super-huge baby (I've had one big baby and I have gestational diabetes this time).

they estimated my daughter to be 8lbs at 34weeks - and i had her at 40weeks (Exactly) and she was 7lbs 9oz...so don't worry too much!

i'd be careful about asking to be induced because that increases your chances of needing a c-section. u/s measurements at that point can be off by as much as a pound.

As far as I know the steroids don't affect the baby's growth just the lung development.  4lbs 4 oz at 34 weeks doesn't sound that big to me. I am 31 weeks and at 28 weeks my baby was measuring 2 lbs 11oz and was only in the 60 percentile. So I think adding two pounds to that (not even a full two pounds) in 6 weeks should be normal.
