Hospital nat and cesarean birth rates

I have picked 2 hospitals Mount Sinai and St. Vincent (NYC) now I’m trying to hospitalget info on the birth rates in the  and I’m having trouble find it. I really want to have a natural birth but I know that’s not always the case but I at least want to pick the hospital with the low cesarean rate.
I know a lot of it has to do also with your doctor/midwife but my insurance is so crappy I have to go from the clinic and they have 4 midwifes there and one of them will be there during my delivery (that’s what they told me). Any info would be great!

I'm sorry to hear that about your bad experience- infuriating! He was completely in the wrong there. While the workers at the hospital are going to do their jobs for you, your job is going to be telling them what you want and being responsible for what you need. You shouldn't have to know all the terms.  Even better like the above posts said about talking to them in advance and having an advocate/midwife.  Good luck, I'm sure it will work out!

On another note, it's kind of amazing how high the c-section rates are in the US.  A friend of mine just had a baby in NYC and also looked for a hospital with low C- rates, but it was in Park Slope. She was able to have the natural birth.

I'm from NY too but in Germany now and figuring out how it works here!

Thank you ladies!!
I guess I get a bit paranoid…Long ago I had GYN surgery done and my doctor was so rude and unhelpful to me that I left crying. When I was asking him question’s and that I didn’t understand the medical terms… he told me “ Would you listen to me?! Who went to med school here you or me?” I was shocked!
So because of that experience I worry about this one…I hope when I say I want this or that no one will look at me like am an idiot and know nothing.

it's also a good idea to let the nurses at the hospital know you want a natural birth right away when you arrive at the hospital as usually you will spend most of your time with the nurses and only see your Dr/ midwife when it is time to push or if there is a complication! I have had 3 natural births and i think just being sure about what you want and letting other know what you want (in a nice way!) is the key to getting the birth you want not the hospitals way! also make sure your support person is fully aware and can help you get your point accrossed sinc ewhile in labor you may not always be able too! a birthplan is also a good way to go then everythign is in writing and you bring it with you to the hospital. you can often find free birthplans online and fill them out. Good luck and i hope everything goes the way you want it too!

Well, I know for a fact that you are much less likely to have a c-section with a midwife. If they are good, they will try to do whatever they can to avoid it. You have to make sure that your wishes are known. Tell each of them how important a natural birth is to you. I've had 3 natural births and the thought of a c-section terrifies me. I've never had any kind of surgery in my life.
