Maternity Clothes

Have any of you needed to buy them yet?  I am 14 weeks and I can't take my tight pants anymore and I am giving in.  I hate to spend a lot on stuff I won't wear after the baby is here (I usually love designer jeans) any ideas for stylish, affordable clothes?  This is my first pregnancy I have no clue what I am doing.  If I do invest in maternity clothes are they meant to fit you the entire pregnancy?

Cool, thanks rebekah! Those are helpful tips...Yes, I meant for right now. But I do plan to breast feed, so that's a good idea for me to keep that in mind to get something bigger in advance because I won't feel like shopping then. I'm going to check out a maternity store here in Germany maybe today. Hopefully everything is not too expensive. If there was ever a time I needed a Target this is it! Lol.

Right now Im wearing jeans with an elastic waist and baggy sweatshirts and tees. I always shop for maternity clothes at thrift shops and I've found some good buys on Ebay. For bras, I went out and bought sports bras 1 size bigger than before. They fit perfectly now so I'm sure I'll need new ones before August.

are talking about now for pregnancy or an after the baby bra. if you talking about now as long as it's comfortable you can buy a regular bra just in a bigger size.  if your talk about after the baby it partly depends on if you are going to be breastfeeding, if your not just going up a size maybe ok, if you are going to breastfeed you may go up more than one cup size depending. i find that it is easier to buy actual breastfeeding bras (they have nice ones at motherhood maternity and some at target) although some women do just fine with regular bras (I like the convience of nursing bra) I suggest that if you are going to breast feed, buy one at least one size up and then be prepared to have to buy another one depending on how big you get when your milk is in. also if you r buying one while your pregnant you may also want to buy on band size up as in a few months that area might get a little tight and you could be more comfortable in a bigger band size.

For those of you that have been through this before, am I supposed to buy a new bra at a maternity store, or just buy one cup size up and maybe one size up around?  Also when you do buy maternity pants, I guess you get them with room for the next few months? It is kind of confusing after all.

Heather thanks for reminding me about the belly bands. I just moved to Germany this week (which is why I haven't posted much), and maybe they have them here.

The jeans that I got from walmart were actually Levi's.  I got 2 pairs of jeans & 1 pair of jean capri's.  They are super comfy with room to grow! :)

This is my 5th pregnancy (4th baby and 1 MC) and we moved a few months ago, so i got rid of almost all of my maternity clothes! I am 11 weeks and have lost 16 pounds , so i can still fit in my jeans, even went down a size (I was bigger to begin with), but my belly has gotten so big already ( I look like i'm atleast 4 months that the pants are still tight accrossed the belly, so i am investing in a few maternity clothes since i will be in them most of the pregnancy this time. i'm ordering most of mine from target.com they have lots of summer and spring type stuff on clearance on the website , because sometimes the warehouses don't send the stuff out or it gets missed on a delivery, so they have nice stuff at good prices on line and if you order $50 worth or more they will delivier to your house for free I was even find a few cute maternity swimming suits! and of course they have regulary priced maternity clothe for right now! I also like the motherhood maternity store they a lot of times have cute jeans at good prices (I also really like their nursing bras, they are cute for the most part while still functioning well!) and old navy maternity (although their sizes seem to vary, so it is better to try it on first!) I did'nt know about walmart discountinuing their maternity line (i did'nt really like their jeans, but some of their tops were pretty cute, so i'll have to check out whats on sale now! Good luck and their seem to be a lot of us in the same boat as far as maternity wear goes!

I am up in Canada but at some of the little baby maternity boutiques, they have expanders for your jeans you already have. I am sure you could find them anywhere, they ran about $30 each but if you don't have to but all new pants and still wear your favorite designer jeans they are worth it. Thay are called bella bands at the one place i go but i am sure there are other brands. Other then that i have been to many maternity stores trying to find jeans and shockingly the best looking and fitting pair i have found were actually at walmart, i know!!! So there are many options. This is my second, and even though it has been 10 years, i showed so early, started wearing mat pants about 3 weeks ago, I am 11 weeks and 4 days.

My pants aren't really fitting either. I have the rubber-band button trick on my jeans, and that's about all that fits. I've gained weight pretty fast.  Also for tops, I found a few at Old Navy, and like others said Gap and Target.  I find Gap Body stuff to be so soft which is kind of nice right now.

Friends told me not to spend to much on clothes and just get one good pair of maternity jeans and some long tops.  Since you said you like designer jeans you might be happy to know Seven makes maternity ones.  Depending on where you live you might find them second hand...or as a hand me down.

I'm defiantly at the point where my normal clothes aren't comfortable, especially if I have to go out or go to a party/dinner, etc.  Time to shop, although I'm too tired and busy!

My problem is that I am still too small for  most maternity clothes. I am 4ft 10 and almost 13 weeks, I am just hitting 100lb but I have a belly. I am wearing my husbands shirts  just to be comfortable around the house.

I've had really good luck selling them on ebay as lots after I'm done! The last few times I've saved most of mine though and now I'm overrun with everyone that's given me more..lol

I got some maternity clothes at walmart.com, they are discontinuing their line so the stuff was really inexpensive!  They had Levi's pants & Capris.  My pants still technically fit but they are SO uncomfortable when I try & sit down.  I have been wearing the maternity ones lately.

Thanks feather that is what I am finding too about the tighness around the belly.  I am rather small.  So, I thought maternity wear would be too big.  But, I ended up finding 3 pairs of pants at Motherhood Maternity (all for $30 each) the smallest size fits, but still fall down a little.  I went to Old Navy and just bought a few big tops a size up, I already have some flowy dresses so hopefully I won't have to buy too much more.

I am going out this weekend to get some. I have summer maternity clothes from my son but nothing for the winter. On my previous pregnancy I found that my second and third trimester clothing were different sizes. Just remember that you will be in the summer when you are at your biggest and will be living in t-shirts shorts etc... I have found old Navy, gap and target to be good for basics and not too pricey. Dressier clothes probably motherhood maternity. It also depends on what your size is. The key is to be comfortable as I found that I couldnt wear anything tight around my stomach and so all my pants were below the belly.
