Baby gender at how many weeks

Okay...I'm taking a poll...if you now know the gender of your baby because of an ultrasound how far along were you??  Did you find out during the NT scan???   I'm very annoyed as I had my NT scan and the tech wouldn't even take a peek for me!   I have heard various comments about finding out at NT scan and/or gestational age.   I know they'll be able to tell for sure by 20 weeks and maybe even 18 weeks.   But I'm just a bit impatient and curious.   Thanks!!

Gender determined at ____ weeks.
At NT scan?   Yes or No

Hi, i'm not finding out i'm leaving it a surprise. I have a boy and a girl so really doesn't bother me. I'm so surprised to see how many on here that have found out. I found out the sex for my second one because i was hoping for a girl and i got it but not this time i really don't care as long as it's healthy.

I've read that the higher quality machines make a difference.   But I read it on the internet and unfortunately you can't believe everything you read  :(

I checked out the link Jaxx mentioned.  That's a really great site, Jaxx, thanks for the link!  But I understood it to say that at 11 weeks, a guess is 50/50 but by 12 weeks the accuracy goes up significantly.  Other sites have said between 80-98% accuracy at 12 weeks based on genital tuburcle.

y'know, honestly, i'm not sure about "higher-level machines", i have done a lot of research on the subject, and the link I provided above seems to be the most agreed upon information. The ingender.com site has a lot of interesting info about 2d vs 3d and so on. you should check it out. fun stuff!

I never thought it was possible to tell so early, but after my experience in this pregnancy, I changed my mind.

But I definately think it depends on the person doing the ultrasound and their abilities ; the ultrasound equipment and positioning of the baby.

Even on Mayoclinics website it says "Week 11: Baby's sex may be apparent" but I highly doubt that my normal doctor would have been able to tell us the sex at 12w+2d like our specialist did.  He is amazing and has an fabulous ultrasound machine.

Is that true for the higher-level ultrasound machines, also? I know there's a difference in machine quality, so I wonder if the error rate remains the same?

The error rate of determining fetal gender at 12w is 50/50, and I can guess for you for free and have the same odds of getting it right... i wouldn't trust anything until closer to 16/18 weeks. go to this site

http://baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

to see what I mean... good luck!

Hi, I see your having twins in August as well. I was just wondering if at the 12week scan, your babies had the same heart rate and were the same size? I'm having non-identicle twins, yet they were the same size and heart rate. I would love a boy and a girl, but they couldn't tell at 12 weeks yet. The Ultra-sound tech thinks they might be they same sex because they have the same heart rate....

I may do it.....I won't tell my DH thought...he'd try to talk me out of it.   That's just two weeks away.  Other than the fact that I'm impatient, I'd like to know because it will help in picking out baby stuff...I don't want gender neutral....blah!!

DH and I found ourselves at Babies R US, and we walked out of there with nothing.  I thought I could get the baby toiletries for a lot less at walmart, but we just wandered around and looked at a few things and decided it would be better if we knew what the baby was going to be. I was suprised, however, at how expensive things were!  Last time I baby shopped was in 1990 and 1995.

I say fork out the $75 bucks, girl!!  You'll be so relieved once you know.  It will be worth every penny.  $75 isn't so bad really, cheaper than most places!  And I can't imagine having to wait until your 18 week u/s!

I found out at 12 week NT scan~  they felt pretty confident one's a girl and the other is "possibly a boy"  But, they are twins, and they clearly look different.  I think they are right.  And I'm thrilled!

I think it depends on the person doing the scan.  The dr. did mine ~ he's a maternal fetal medicine doctor.   I guess maybe when a tech does the scan, they might get in trouble if they make an incorrect call.  Just a guess.

When I found out at 12w+2s, it wasn't with just a normal Ultrasound TEch, it was one of with a prenatal specialist doctor who has a qualification that very few in all of Germany have.  I didnt think it was possible to find out that early, but this specialist doctor (and his U/S equipment) was waaaaay better than my normal doctor.  I am not surprised that a normal U/S tech tells you that is too early....I think it is depending on the person doing the U/S and the equipment that they have.  I think "normally" the earliest you usally find out is 16th week.  That is how far I was in my last pregnancy.
