Breast Feeding

I plan on breast feeding, and I am taking a class in June to learn the basics.  My sisters who both have children tried and gave up at breast feeding.  So, I will attempt and do my best but will not beat myself up if I cannot, and realize that it is just not the right thing for some.  My question is should I add feeding supplies to my registry?  What are you ladies doing?  I don't want to buy all of these supplies for breast feeding then it turns out I decide it's not right for me.  Do any of you ladies have any advice for just the basics that I can add to the registry?  Or should I wait? Do they set you up at the hospital before you leave? Trying to be as prepared as possible.

Honey....133 items is good!!! I just added a lot of the same item. Like blankets, I have a zibillion different types of blankets lol. I have two sets of gliders just to give people the choice of buying me either, since I like both sets. Know what I mean? I'm going to look at your registry right now!! lol

I had a lot of people help me. Just friends of mine advising me on what to get. One of the reasons I have so many items is because I have more than one of a single item, just to give people more options. For example, pacifiers, I have like four different types of the ones I like.  Since prices are different, people will buy what they want based on their budget. Blankets…..oh boy….hahahaha. You probably have all you need, but if you want to double check, you can take a quick peek at my registry. Will send you the info you need via PM.

I'm gonna have to look at your registry. I have 133 items between the three registries. I didn't register for much clothing though. I figured that most people buy what they think is cute anyways.  Every baby shower I've ever gone to they end up with a huge pile of clothing.

I am done with my registry... I regisitered at Target.  I didn't do many clothes only some onsies and sleepers for newborns, and 3-6 months because I figured when people are out shopping they kinda go crazy and add in little outfits....lol (I do that whenever I go to a shower).  I have 56 items on mine 6 are bigger ($80-$189) and the rest are less expensive.
How do you have so many?  Am I missing a bunch of stuff?  LOL
I ordered my furnature at Walmart (mother in law bought it for us) and I found a bundle deal for 3 peices (it was around $500 hope it's good quality).

Heather,

Are you done with your registry? I'm done with mine. Got like 187 items now lol. Every time I go on there I end up changing something. I figure since I still have time. My shower is not until July 11th. I did mine at Babies R Us. You?

I want to look at Brittny's registry and see if I'm missing something lol...

Just so you know I never took a class on breastfeeding. It is one of those things that really have to be done with your baby. Some latch easily some dont and again a lactation consultant is really valuable. After that check out La Leche League, because they are women who are experienced.

Thanks for all of your input I will add a few of the recommendations :)
I have been around plenty of newborns, so I am not nervous at all (huge family with lots of kids), but breast feedingmakes me the most nervous for some reason.  Hope I feel better and less apprehensive after my class, I think it's just fear of the unknown...lol

I put three different bottles on my registry because you just never know what type of nipple the baby will prefer. I am planning on breastfeeding but would like BF to be able to feed her also which is why I put a pump on my registry. I know that it's not going to be bought for me (it's the medela freestyle $279)  but at the end Target offers you 10% off anything left on your registry.

I will most likely be returning to work after 3 months so I will need a good pump.  I think I might also buy the manual. I'm still researching and getting opinions on breast pumps.

I put milk storage bags, nipple cream (lanolin), breast pads, gel breast pads, and all the breast feeding supplies on my registry also.

I plan on exclusively breast feeding for the first 4 weeks to prevent nipple confusion if I can.

You can add breast pumps to your registry and it depends if you prefer electric or manual. I tried electric - and although its easy to use i find it doesnt pump out as hard as a hand manual pump. I tried Medela eletric bump and it was weak then I switched to Avent manual and it was like wow - you can see a huge gush of breastmilk compared to the eletric pump.

I would recommend getting nursing pads either way you leek breast milk. I found the Lansinoh cream to help with the cracked nipples. Get a manual pump as they are not as expensive, Get bottles and also sign up with enfamil and similac for free samples on formula just in case.( electric pump if you are sure.) Some good cotton nursing bras. make sure you go up at least a size as you will get bigger.(I was a 34D pregnant and went to 34E). Make sure you use the lactation consultant in the hospital to help you with Latching,But make sure you are comfortable when feeding,I loved my boppy pillow when feeding Fionn. If possible dont use any artificial nipples/pacifiers until your baby has got the hang of breastfeeding.

You should add bottles to your registry. That way if you do breastfeed, you can pump too. And if not, you'll be prepared. The hospital will give you a lot of free samples but nothing really useful.
