Frustrated

I just had my very first 3D u/s. Very cool. We got to see his face up close but he wouldn't open his eyes. I had them confirm that he is still a boy. LOL. We saw 3D genitals. The tech said he has a lot of amniotic fluid, that's probably why I'm measuring 40 cm. She also put his weight between 6-7 and 7-7.  Afterwards I saw the midwife. BP was OK, I lost 1 lb. and I'm still meauring 40 cm.  I'm not dialated or effaced at all :(  My midwife basically told me that I could be looking at going 2 weeks past my due date. That would put me at Sept. 3rd. I'm totally depressed and frustrated. The least they could do is induce me on my due date. So, I'm going to sit my big fat butt in the recliner and not move for the next 3-5 weeks.

My midwife wanted the u/s because my uterus was measuring 40 cm. at 35.5 weeks. (Turns out I have a lot of amniotic fluid).  I wasn't supposed to get another one either. And the only reason it was 3D was because the satellite clinic that I usually go to was closed so I had to go to the main campus for this week's appt. You're right, 30% effaced doesn't sound like much, but at least you know it's starting. I won't be checked again unless there is a problem or I go past term. Things are a lot different than when I had my 8 year old. I was also told that the baby will remain in the room with me the entire time. I can see where it's a good thing, but I do want to sleep.

Karen,

Before I got checked for effacement and dilation last week I was also having strong contractions. Came to find out I was only 30% effaced and 0 cm dilated. Also, the baby's station was a -3. For the amount of time I spent in pain, 30% effacement seemed like nothing.

Question, did you request the 3d u/s or did they offer it? I would like to get one done but if my doctor doesn't think it's necessary then I'd have to pay for it. My insurance wouldn't cover it. My doc told me a few months ago "No more ultrasounds for you unless there is a need for it"    :-(

I dont think you will go to your due date, or even past...Maybe you will be one of the ones, unlike me hehe, that wakes up one day out of nowhere in full blown labor, and we are going to hope around 38 weeks, so you dont have another 10lb baby

devo - yes, it is a bit early but I've had a few real contractions so I was hoping something might be happening. LOL. My 2nd baby was 10 days late and we had some problems (broken collar bone, swallowed meconium, low blood sugar and over 10 lbs.) so I told them I absolutely don't want to go past but they seem really reluctant to listen to me.

5n1 - You're right, I need to relax. It's too early to get my panties in a bunch. LOL. I just wish they would seem a little more interested in my concerns.

Girl, I love the 3d/4d U/S they are so awesome... I wouldnt worry about what they say...They told me that I would be early, and now here I sit 39/40 weeks and having to be induced....Also, about the weight thing....I am measuring small, but have gained 39 pounds, so I just dont understand it either...We are going to pray that you dont have to go past due....

The 3D ultrasound pictures I've seen do look really cool! We never had anything like that, and our 20-week one looked more-or-less like a lot of static on the screen to us. They got all the medical info they needed, but we didn't get much visual satisfaction there!

Anyhow, my understanding is that this would be a bit early for you to be dilated/effaced, right? And that can happen quickly - it just depends on the woman and the baby. Especially since you've had babies before, I bet you won't be two weeks late!!!

As for me, I'm supposedly due this coming Sunday with my first, but I have NO signs at all of impending labor. I haven't been checked yet, so don't know about my dilation and such, but I'm not even sure if I've had B-H contractions or not. I think maybe, but if so, they definitely haven't been strong! I'm OK with going past my due date a bit - I'd actually be quite shocked if things changed suddenly and the baby came by then. I just don't want to go so far past that everyone gets nervous and wants to induce labor, or much worse - that my placenta actually stops working well and the baby ends up getting hurt by that.
