Trouble sleeping?

Lately I can not sleep until I'm completely exhausted. Sometimes my heartburn keeps me up, sometimes it's the baby moving and sometimes I just sleep poorly because it seems I wake up everytime I roll over. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

im going crazy from the lack of sleep...  I literally get up once per hour to pee. I"m not sleeping very well lately. I've started falling asleep at work. This is not a good thing! I have a pinched nerve in my left shoulder and if I sleep on my L shoulder for long, I have excrutiating pain and my shoulder and arm go numb. My bed is very comfy.. I know it's not that.. It's just from being uncomfy. Sometimes, I sleep on my back just to get some sleep. I know I didn't sleep well as it was before I got pregnant, but this is ridiculous. I'll be lucky if I get 3 hrs a night. I can survive on 4-5 hrs a night... but not this.  waahhhhh I can't wait until this is over...

On sleeping, I have good nights and bad nights - mostly depending on how often I have to get up to pee! Anyhow, it sounds like I'm doing a bit better in the sleep-comfort arena than many of you, so here's my strategy:

I've got a c-shaped pregnancy pillow that goes in front of me - under my head, under my belly, and between my legs. It's the one made by the Boppy company. But I find that if I only use that one, I end up rolling onto my back and waking myself up from the discomfort of that position. So I've taken to putting another big regular pillow behind my back to keep me on my side. I get the hip pain that folks are talking about from being on one side for too long, so I switch sides every time I get up to pee (which for me is every 1-3 hours). We have a queen-sized bed, and my whole contraption takes up abut half of it, so my DH and I can still sleep in the same bed.

Karen,

I have to. But I've been applying for other positions. This is a 12 hr job so you only work 14 days in a month. But since I got pregnant they have me on special accommodations and so I only work 8 hours every day. One week I'll work days. The following week I'll work nights. And it is way better for my body than just rotating like I used to.

This week I'm on nights. It is a blessing not having to deal with our supervisor at all since he is only there during the day.

PrettyKitty - Sounds like a very cool job! Are you planning on staying 3rd shift after baby is here?

Brit - I read that some Dr's will prescribe a pelvic harness for your problem. Not sure what it is, but maybe it would help.

I did actually sleep better last night with the extra pillow. And my 8yr. old stayed in his own bed. I only slept for 5 hours, but they were a good 5 hours :)

I have been sleeping with a pillow between my knees and tucked under my belly for weeks. It helps a lot.

I am constantly waking up in pain from my hips if I lay on one side for too long. My pubic bone is also starting to hurt worse. I am up every few hours to go to the bathroom but usually I'm able to fall back asleep pretty quickly. I'm usually in bed for a good 10 hours but not solid sleep. I don't think I'll ever get more then 2-3 hours of solid sleep for the next several years. It's the price we pay for having kids.

I am an electrical engineer and monitor all of our wind turbines in USA and Canada. The job is pretty exciting. We get to operate wind turbines from one control center in Florida. We have about 70 sites now, and are currently building some solar plants in Spain. Since the sites are not manned at night, a crew must be here 24/7. There are 13 of us, all engineers…but young and full of new ideas so we are all dying to do something else since we’ve been doing this for over 2 years already. I’m the only girl…so I’ve got no one to talk to at work about my pregnancy. I have lots of girls friends; but I get to see them and talk to them when I’m not working.  And none of them have kids or want to. So talking to them about my pregnancy is like talking to a wall really. Thank goodness for my mom and MH. The beauty of working nights is I don’t have to deal with my boss and I get to be more relaxed. The lack of sleep though…is what kills me. Ugh.

They got me a support pillow here at work, and a foot stand. And I can wear comfortable shoes…but still I’d rather be in my house. Right now Noah is kicking the crap out of me and pressing on my bladder so hard! He gets stronger by the minute. I don’t think I’ll get to my 40 weeks. I’m thinking of getting induced at 39 weeks. If my cervix isn’t effaced then I’ll do treatment for that. I can’t take this……..lol

Yeah, he has bad dreams, and sometimes he just misses his Mommy :)
I took this weekend off and boy, I do not want to go back to work. I'm trying to make it until the end of July but there are already some things that I can not do and a lot of things that my co-workers will not let me do so I may not last that long. What do you do for work?

aww..does he get scared? poor little guy :-)

Let me know how the pillow thing worked out for ya. Ugh...don't you just want to stop working until the baby is at least 2 months old? All of my discomforts are making it hard for me to stay focused at work. And I don't even work on people. I cannot imagine being a doctor AND pregnant lol. I guess you've seen that before...being that you are a nurse. Ugh how do you manage lol...
These night shifts are killing me!!!

Yes! My hands have been going numb lately too! I've tried the pillow between my legs, but not under my belly. I'll try that tonight. It might help if my 8 year old would stop climbing into bed with me. I'm too exhausted to get up and walk him back to his room :(

I know what you mean. My back and hips hurt as well. It's terrible. Also, when I find a comfortable position I have to go to the bathroom. If I get lucky, I'll sleep a bit but then my arms and hands will get numb from sleeping in just THAT ONE position. Ugh..

I think the pillow might help, Karen.

I've been sleeping seperate from my hubby for....I don't even know. A couple years. He snores and moves a lot in his sleep. When I worked full-time on 3rd shift, I never slept at night so it didn't matter. Now I only work weekends so he's been on the couch or in the recliner. I usually don't pee more than twice a night. I'm just terribly uncomfortable. Sometimes I can't find a position to make my back stop aching. Sometimes my hips hurt. I really wouldn't care if the kids were in school, but I'd rather not be falling asleep on them every day this summer. LOL.

Same here Karen I don't sleep well at all.  If I stay in one position too long it's round ligament pain on either side of my stomach pillow or no pillow.  If I even make it to the point of staying into a position because I pee every half hour.  I keep telling myself this is prepping me for waking up every 2 hours to breastfeed...lol.

As far as my husband I and I sleeping together we haven't since the beginning of my pregnancy.  I am an insomniac anyway I have always had a hard time sleeping and he snores.  So, we have always had a few nights a week prior to pregnancy where I would kick him out.  Wasn't a problem when I was exausted at the beginning, but as soon as my sleeping patterns returned to somewhat normal we both couldn't take it and he has been sleeping in the guest room...lol.  I actually like having my own bed, and it hasn't affected our relationship much.  We still cuddle everyday morning or/and night when we wake up or go to sleep.

I an not sleeping well. I usually take a spoon of Gaviscon before I got to bed to help with the heartburn. Also adding an extra pillow can help. Saoirse can move into some funny positions which really make me uncomfortable. Sometimes it is just easier to sleep in a reclined position.

I am!! ggrrr and having to get up early to go to work makes it all worse. My problem is I wake up a lot to pee, or to find out I peed all over the sheets and I need to clean myself up and get a clean bedding set. It is pure madness. Sometimes I have to do this three times in one night. It is impossible to get a good night sleep this way. Also, when I roll over I wake up. Ugh. I am THIS close to having hubby sleep in the other room. One of my cats sleeps next to me, so I'm always in between kitty and DH...and I need space!! The cat will not go. If I dare get him out of the room he will not let us sleep and it will break my heart. Abby is so attached to me and he has been so close to dying more than once already that I just don't have the strength to shooosh him out. So hubby has to go hahahaha my poor man LOL.

I have had heartburn and one good thing that helps is drinking a glass of milk before going to bed. It helps me a lot. I drink it without sugar or coffee....plain ol' yummy milk.  As for the baby move...I mean what can we do about that, right? LOL
And as for rolling over......have you tried the pillow between your legs and underneath your belly to sleep more comfortably? Have you tried getting hubby all comfy in a separate bed? hahahahah You should have seen my husband's face when I told him he had to go. I had to laugh. We are still sleeping in the same bed but I think those days are numbered lol...aaww....
