pets and pregnancy

I know this will ultimately be a doctor question. However I wanted to see what other mommies thought. Since moving into a townhouse that does not allow dogs/cats.. and being the animal lover I am.. I'm desperately wanting a small caged animal. I'm considering getting Gerbils, they same reasonabley easy to handle (I've owned hamsters, guinea pigs, hedge hog). I know you aren't suppose to change cat litter when pregnant. Didn't know if anyone knew about anything else with pregnancy and animals.. any advice appreciated (:

We have a baby iguana but cuz of diseases I cant touch it my husband does all the cleaning feeding and playing with if you can refrain from touching it and have someone else clean and manage it I think it would be ok..... but id really get your doctors opinion I got pregnant after we got the iguana my husband spent alot on a carnival game trying to win it for me so I cant get rid of it.... its sentimental value is to high(:

Those pets being part of the "rodent" family should be avoided during pregnancy. They can carry a virus that can be very harmful. Maybe a bird or a fish? Birds are great pets and no risk as long as they're healthy and clean :)
