two ultrasounds?

Hi ladies,
I'm just wondering how people who are not as far along as I am already know the sex of their baby? I have only had one ultrasound so far and I am 16 weeks pregnant, my first one was at 7w1d and now my second one will be at 18w1d. Is it normal to only have two ultrasounds with me being this far along? I am doing the early scan this week on thursday, but I just wonder how everyone else got to find out the sex of the baby so early on?

I had 6 ultrasounds with my oldest son and knew at 12 weeks I was proble gonna have a boy and knew for sure he was a boy at 18 almost 19 weeks . With this pregnancy , I knew I was having another boy at 12 weeks and 3 days by blood work . And have had an ultrasound done every month since then cause they was worried bout his bladder and wanted to keep an eye on him and I'm 31 weeks and 1 days now (:

My doctor has an ultrasound machine in his office, so I was able to see my baby often. It depends on the doctor, but from stories I've heard most only get 1 or 2 ultrasounds unless they pay for more. I had one at 8,12,16, and 19 weeks with my doctor. I also paid for an early gender screening through a third party and found out it was a boy at 14 weeks. My scans at 16 and 19 weeks confirmed it is a boy. My office gives you a free 3D ultrasound if you do your anatomy scan with them, so at 27 weeks I will get a 3D scan done. Also, my anatomy scan showed my little man has a dilated kidney, so we will have another scan when I am in the third trimester. If everything is looking good then only two scans is completely normal.

Well, I am from Puerto Rico and I am High Risk... I have appointments every 2 weeks and they do a sonogram on every week! :) Im 22+5 ... I've had a lot of sonograms. And they also did one in wich they check for the bones, brain, skull and heart of the baby :) ... I am so excited to have my 3D/4D sonogram!!!!!

I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks. I'm now 20 weeks & will be having my 2nd ultrasound this Friday. I heard too many ultrasounds isn't safe.

It depends on your doctor but most doctors only give 3 just to be safe, one on your first visit, the second to find out the sex,the last close to your due date to find out the weight.

I got an Ultrasound at 12 weeks for IPS and just got my 20 week one at 19 weeks 2 days. It's a girl. I already have a girl so I wanted one of each sex but hey what can you do. It's healthy and growing well, my 3 year old is glad to have a sister.

I'm in the same boat, no second ultrasound until 20 weeks. So I made an appointment with u/s specialists to have an ultrasound. It was 75 dollars and the give me a DVD, a cd with 50 pictures plus 20 printed pics and I'll find out the sex! Docs don't do tons of ultrasounds unless your high risk.

I'm also high risk. I received three ultrasounds per Obgyn in my first 14 weeks and next one is at 20 weeks. I paid 3d/4d ultrasound company for early gender test. Most dr don't do many US just listen to the heart beat every visit. We like the US to see our babies but they really do them for other reasons. Lol

I guess some ob offices just are different most people get a few within the first and second trimester. At least it puts my mind at ease seeing as other peoples offices are just like mine. Still super excited to see the little gummy bear tomprrow !

I'm 15 weeks 1 day

I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks and my next one I will be 17 weeks so yes it's normal. Your first app was sooner than normal to get an ultrasound is why it feels like it take forever. My doctor won't see anyone unless they are 9 weeks I had to wait from 5 weeks til 9 to see my baby

I have only had 1, but I took a blood test to find out. It may not be covered by health insurance, usually only covers for 35 and older.
