Pediatrician Interview-Need Help

Hello ladies, this coming Thursday I will be interviewing a prospective pediatrician for my twin girls.  Being a FTM I have no idea what questions I should be asking.  Any recommendations/suggestions?  Thanks for your help!

As you know, we are first timers too...but we did interview our Pediatrician to be....

1) He was recommended by a friend that has a 3 year old.  They have been with the doc since the baby was born.  My first questioning was to my friend...what did she like about the doctor?  Why?  What experiences did she have and how did he handle them?  Was it as she would have liked or was there a conflict between what they wanted and the doc wanted?

2) Location, hours and emergency ....the doc we found is open on weekends and is less than a mile from the house. Big plus.  They have an emergency doc too, and of course, the hospital...

3) What is their stand on issues that are important to you?  Are you going to vaccinate?  What is the schedule they prescribe and why, are you ok with that?  If you are not going to vaccinate, will the doc support that?

4) If you are or are not planning to breast feed, do they have opinions or anything that would matter.  As an example, we talked to one doc and all they seemed to care about was breast feeding...kind of challenging with a surrogate...and I am not willing to get the lecture every time I have to deal with the doctor.  Not a good fit.

5) As SMJ mentioned...do you get along with them, did you feel like they were "your kind of people"?  We felt like the doc was really laid back, and didn't have a panic mode approach.  I didn't want a doctor that would medicate for every little thing, so we wanted someone who was a good blend of caution and let's wait and see.

I have no idea if any of this will make our choice a good one..or if it helps you..but that was some of the discussion we had around interviewing our doctor.  Hope it's useful!!!!

i interviewed several. i asked about vaccine schedules (i am planning on vaccinating, but not for hep B or A as an infant or chicken pox)
sick vs well kid visits-seperate waiting rooms are ideal
same day and emergency coverage
are they supportive of breastfeeding or quick to recommend formula
and most importantly what did my "gut" say about the practice :)

I never interviewed my peds. I take my son to the military hospital, and we just moved to this base, we share a dr (she's a family care dr so she's my ob and his ped) and I really like her. Before moving here I had the option to see a different dr if I didn't like the one I had.

I honestly don't know what questions to ask, the way I decided whether or not I liked the dr is by the appointments. IMO you can interview someone and like them/not like them, but when you get to your first appointment, it's different. I wanted to walk into Elijah's appointment with his dr sitting there, not staring at a computer or paper, looking at me, talking to me, listening to everything I say, and waiting until I was completely finished talking before they made a move or said anything.

That and watching how they were with him, that was most important to me...I wanted them to treat him like Elijah instead of another patient. I wanted to see how thoroughly they went over him when I brought him in for a certain reason. I wanted to know they care about EVERY patient, and didn't rush through an appointment because they had a ton of people that day.

I don't know if you can switch drs or not once you choose one, and sorry I can't help with questions, but just a thought to keep in mind about seeing them with the babies.
