Hey ladies,
How is everyone doing in the weight-gain department? I've been getting very overwhelmed lately by so many places (websites, emails, the doctor) saying I'm gaining weight too fast. I've gained about 18 lbs now and I'm at 24 weeks. My BMI before I got pregnant was 20, so I was on the low-end of normalNormal saline flush. I'm definitely not unhappy with the way I look right now, I think I look fine...I seem to be mostly belly, not anything in the legs, arms, or faceFace pain...but it's getting me very downhearted reading over and over that I weigh too much. My husband says I look fine, too.
I just don't understand what all these guidelines want me to do! If I'm supposed to weigh less, where should the weight come off from if it's not really anywhere but my belly??? I've even been doing elliptical for 30 minutes 5 times a week.
Grrr...
Has anyone else been upset by these weight gain guidelines?
Sounds like we are in the same situation. I don't know why they are saying you are gaining to much. I was 126 lbs at 5-3 when I started out. My BMI was low as well because I have a muscularBecker's muscular dystrophy Duchenne muscular dystrophy Muscular dystrophy Muscular dystrophy - resources build and was running marathons. At my 24 week visit I gained 17 lbs and the dr. said I was right on target and even mentioned that I was finally starting to round a bit. Still not a true belly though. :( Most of my weight has been belly/waist and a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys in the butt (which I needed to be honest - LOL). I have gained this amount even by working out on a regularRegular insulin basis which consists of lights weights and cardio - jogging, eliptical and speed walking 3-4 miles.
They say you gain around a pound a week at this point and if that holds true you would be around 35 lbs, which is within the normalNormal saline flush weight gain. I think you are perfectly fine and if you are gaining the weight on good foods I think you are doing well....but what do I know I am a FTM and also get my knowledge from books, website and the doctor.
I think everyone is different, and it's not like you can loose the weight while you're pregnant, so what do they want you to do about it? the doctor who was filling in for my doctor last week at my appt. said I had gained more than they would "like" but only 2lbs more, big deal! I have gained 14lbs so far and I am 25 weeks, I don't think that is bad. I just happend to gain 6 of those pounds in the last month. I also asked her about the anxiety attacks and depression I've been experiencing and she just said that it was normal! I didn't like the way she treated me, like she was in a hurry to get out of there, and like she couldn't care less about me because I wasn't her patient, I miss my doctor :( she is going to be having her baby soon, so I won't get to see her at my next visit either.
I have gained 14 lbs so far at 24 weeks. I started at 135 lbs and I am 5'8". I am planning on gaining around 30 lbs total. This is based on my 1st pregnancy with DD back in '06. If you plan on nursing the weight will come off very quickly.
My last appointment which was at 24 weeks I had only gained 13 pounds, which I was kind of surprised because I looked and felt like I had gained way more. I have my 28 week appointment on Wednesday so I will have to see how much I have gained since last time. I was a big girl to begin with so I am kind of glad that I have not gained that much and don't have it EVERYWHERE. Luckily for me it is all belly. I hope it stays that way. Every pregnancy is different so we will see how my doctor feels about my weight gain. Keep you all posted!
Initially with morning sickness, i lost a total of nearly 28 lbs, i have since gained about 25 of them back and I am 26 weeks along. My doc said that that was fine because I have not yet reached my beginning weight. My doc also said that If I stay where I am during my entire pregnancy or even gain no more than 10 lbs that I would be fine. I am not sure if I have a choice as I heard that when pregnant, during the last trimester you gain like 2 lbs a week due to the baby growing. I don't care as long as my baby is healthy, and I can return to a normal weight afterward.
Oh good, that's reassuring to hear your doctor said you were right on target. I wasn't running marathons when I got pregnant, but I was running every day and was in pretty good shape. I can't get a clear answer from my doctor about the weight gain...I'm at an office where the doctors rotate. The last doctor I asked about it, her answer was pretty much that she expected me to go over the weight gain guidelines since I'd gained 13 lbs at 20 weeks. And that was it. Nothing personal, no good advice. I was like, how is that supposed to help me at all??
In any case, your reply was reassuring. Thanks. :)
Hey girl, sounds like you're experiencing the same thing as me. Docs who don't really want to help you, they just want to do the necessary exam and get you out of the office. That's how I've felt at a lot of my appointments lately. I don't know if I'll use the same place with my next pregnancy (assuming I can have another baby).
Besides that, 14 lbs at 25 weeks sounds good to me?? I mean, my weight gain will probably be about 19 lbs by then. :(
I'm sorry your regular doc is gone...I hope she comes back for you soon! And I hope I get a good doc like that the next time I search for an ob-gyb.
