Oct updates

Hi All,

decided to start a new post so it's easy to see by month.

Michaela was supposed to have 8 1/2 mo check up on last Friday (we're off scedule now 'cause i missed a few weeks while travelling).

Anyway, Thurs night she was a bit off colour: slight cough and maybe very mild fever. Power outtage so hot and we had restless night. Power came on about 2 am. She had higher fever, got the a/c on and got her comfortable and we both went back to sleep. 5.30 she woke me crying. Picked her up and she had higher fever and severe barking cough and very labored breathing with loud stridor. Scarey!  Thought sounds like croup. got dressed and headed to ER. we got admitted - poor baby had to have iv line and nebuliser. Had to stay at the hospital with her. 36 hrs we are discharged and home. Poor baby still very sick, but breathing better with the meds.

Scarey thing though - on the discharge instructions was written to give her nebulized steroids every 3 hours. What? Asked the nurse twice if it was correct. She said yes correct. Even though she'd been on the same med 3 times a day while in hospital. Then checked with drug store - no every 3 hours not usual dosing. so i just bought enough for 3 x a day. back to the hospital to check out. Asked the nurse again. She told me it was correct. Asked her to call my consultant dr. Sure enough - the resident had made a mistake. Hope they learnt something! Aside from cost - drug is expensive if i hadn't queried my baby may have had 2.5x normal dose of strong steroid med!

Also at checkout I saw my allergy dr who had a patient in the same floor. She asked about my baby and what was wrong. told her. Then she asked if my baby had allergies yet. Told her about the egg and milk reactions and she said they sounded like allergic reactions. Then in front of the two residents, who had just the night before given me a hard time about not vaccinating my baby, told me i should be very very careful about vaccinating M. Told her I wasn't vaccinating M and then she told me she agreed that approach was best given the circumstances and family and M's history.  And congratulated me for and emphasised the benefit of continued breastfeeding - those two residents had also expressed surprise that i was still exclusively breastfeeding an 8 1/2 mo baby.  I felt so vindicated!

Tired and glad to be home - my poor sick baby sleeping in my arms now.

Hi all!
Caiden is 8 in a half months and he is learning things so quickly! He's been crawling and standing up on his own for months. He can stand on his own too..tries to take steps but falls. He's been clapping for a while also. He recently learned how to point...and if you ask his something like "where is the light" he will point to it. He's very smart.
He's been saying "da da" for a very long time...he says "momma" too. He's beginning to say other words...but they haven't quite come together. He knows the meaning of "no"...LOL and he even shakes his head no! It's really funny. But he makes a ton of noises/sounds...very vocal little boy!
His 9 month checkup is Nov 12th...really excited to see how much he weighs and how tall he is! I weighed him with myself the other week and it said he was 23 pounds! But he's over 31" tall, so he's very long and has thinned out so much.
He has 5 teeth! I KNOW...5! And he's getting more! Still teething...the poor thing. A clear runny nose and phases of crankyness.
It's funny because he's big for his age..but his hair is growing slowly..so he still looks like such a baby and I love that! He's currently in 12 month clothing. I have some 18 month one piece stuff but its big on him.
He's been eating real food for a bit too. He wants nothing to do with his baby food, wants everything off the table..so were experimenting, letting him try this and that. Still loves his formula though. Still has four 8 ounce bottles a day. Snacks in between.

He babbles and laughs all the time...he likes to tell stories :) Luckily he hasn't been sick yet...hubby & I got a really bad 24 hour flu and thankfully Caiden stayed healthy. He's had a runny nose due to him teething but other than that he is such a healthy baby boy! Growing up so fast...I can't believe the time that has gone by! Really looking forward to the Holidays!! :)

A little concerned that she had started talking before and then she stopped.  Was there any event that happened at the time you noticed she stopped talking.  Anyway, hope this is nothing and she will pick up and start doing everything soon.

Let us know....

Your other kids sound like they were really advanced. Is myra interacting appropriately? Eye contact. Using her hands? Looks when talked to etc.  If so wouldn't be too worried?

M is 9 month tomorrow. M is crawling really well. Standing with support and pulling up. Claps her hands. Does open-close but with 1 hand only bends her index finger. She has no teeth at all yet.
She makes noise, but no words at all, not even close.

Kids develop at very different rates. If you are worried ask her pedia to refer her for assessment. Trust your instincts. Either you can be reassured or if there is a problem early intervention could start early.

Aww Sally.  My son went through this EVERY YEAR until he was 3 years old.  He had to take Steriods as well and a humidifier as night for his barking.  He was hospitalized for 24 hours and needed oxygen.  It was very scary.  He couldn't breathe just as you were describing.  I hope everything is better now and hopefully she doesn't get it back.

Well, you kinda know what Myra has been doing to me.  LOL  She gets up in the crawling position, but just rocks back and forth.  But she rolls ALL over the place.  She's much more laid back then my other kids.  She doesn't cry one peep, always happy and always to herself.  She hasn't spoke 2 words in MONTHS!  She was saying "Hi" and Mama, but nothing now.  Just laughs.  I have no clue if something is wrong or what.  My others were talking by 4 months, crawling at 5 months and walking by 9 months.  I know I shouldn't compare her to the others, but I don't know what is wrong.

Is anyone else's babies NOT, crawling, pulling themselves up and talking?  I hope I'm not the only one.  She just quit everything about a month or two ago =(

well sally  glad to hear that she is ok . I had a similar thing happen to my lil  peanut she  was admitted into the hospital when she was  four months  and we left with  DX or infantile asthma.
Well  peanut is   8 months old as  of  yesterday and she  is getting into everything. she  doesnt really want to  crawl around but she  has figured out ways to  get things that she wants  with out crawling with out anyone giving them to her .  She plays on the  floor  sitting on  a blanket well if u place something  to far out of her reach she will grab the blanket and  pull it to her and hten she  gets so happy when she  gets it.
she  pulls herself to  standing  up when u hold her hands and she is starting to  grab and pull so it is only a matter of time :) before she is causing trouble with the other two lol.  she  eats just about everything  we give her and she now talks up a storm  MAA MAA And  DA DA all the times  and she laughs giggles also .

Aww Sally, I am glad M is okay now and on meds to help her get better..>I just hate when our babies get sick...they are so helpless..

Sarah....is growing up way too fast. She wants to stand all the time. I go in her room to get her in the morning and there she is, standing on her own holding on to the side of the crib..little stinker!! She is crawling like a champ and wants to eat whatever we have!

She now talks to herself while I rock her to sleep.......eyes closed....almost like she is coaxing herself to sleep....so so cute!

My MIL has been up for a week and is leaving tomorrow so she has been home with Sarah so hubby can work some OT without having to pay for childcare. Boy am I going to miss that!!

Enjoying all my time I can with my Sarah..as before i know it this next little girl will be here and I am going to have my hands full with two of them!! OMGoodness!!!

Hope all is well with everyone!
