Failed Glucose Test

by yelloweskimo, Oct 29, 2008 06:09PM
Hi Everyone,
I just found out I failed my glucose test. I have to do the 3 hour one this weekend, but has anyone else failed it? Did you turn out to have gestational diabetes? I am really OK with having it, but I don't like being in limbo, I just want to know if I have it or not so I can be told what I need to do and be monitored if necessary. It's hard not to worry about whether the damage has been done or not. I hope the bubba is OK in there!

my friend had it, but hers was soo mild they didnt require that she tested her blood sugar every day or take insulin...it all depends on how much you 'failed' by i guess. best of luck!

i still have yet to go for mine...bad mommy! lol

I had one and was flagged with a high result so they called me in for a second one.

In the first one, I just drank the orange stuff, waited an hour and then went back for them to do the blood.

For the next test, they had me fast for 10 hours prior to taking the test, drink the orange stuff, then had blood drawn an hour later and again the following hour. The second test resulted in a normal result.

I'm not sure why the first test showed high. Maybe because of what I ate/drank before the test? Not sure. I haven't spoke to my doctor since the test. I had just called her receptionist and found out that the result was ok. I do see the doctor tomorrow though, so I will find out then.

Hopefully your situation will be like mine. If not, you will be ok too :)  Two of my friends have had gestational diabetes; You will just have to watch your diet and may have to use medicine if that does not work. Your baby will be ok though so not to worry! :)

I also failed my 1 hour and will be taking 3 hour test tomorrow.

I know that lots of women fail one hour but pass the 3 hour test.  I hope it's your case.

The results can very much be affected by anything you eat prior to the test, such as juice, snack, a meal etc. That is why so many women may fail the first glucose test but pass the second one with flying colors. Good luck and keep us up to date.

I didn't actually eat anything prior to the first test, so that makes me think I am going to fail the second one!! As long as my baby is fine then I don't mind, I just don't want any problems to be caused for her. Thanks everyone for your input!!

I didnt eat nada before the 1 hour: I FAILED :(, Fasted 12 hours bedore the 3 hours: FAILED AGAIN.
So my Dr diagnosed GD, not as bad as I thought.  The only thing I hate is testing my blood sugar levels twine a day.
Im on a special diet too, and let me tell you, I miss sweets soo much, but its for the best, Im taking very good care of myself now...
As the ladies said, most people who fail teh 1 hour pass the 3 hours.  I wish everything goes well.
Ps. Remenber to take a book with you that day to the lab, It gets sooo boring in there!  They wouldnt let me walk, drink water, nothing!
Good luck!

Don't worry so much right now.....you sound like you are OK!!!
But I also failed my first test, they said my results were a little high.
When I went for my 3 hour test, it's kinda awful cause the drink is so concentrated with sugar that I almost felt like I couldn't drink all of it. And before I drank the orange soda they drew blood then after every hour for 3 hours. It's a long wait and you start to feel bad cause you want some food. I was able to drink water during the testing. All in all, it's not fun but something that you must do, and when it's over .....it's over.

So, good luck to you and I hope everything goes well! :)

Just took my 3 hour test.  It's a nasty way to start your day but at least it's over.  Will probably get results on Monday.

Good luck to everyone with their GD tests!!

I had my 3 hr test and it made me terribly sick for the rest of the day - then the next day I still felt off and sick after eating something, and today I am still feeling very tired and off. I don't think it's a good sign........... I would be surprised if I pass the test after feeling like this :-(

It's all fine though, at least I know that I will be eating very very well for the rest of my pregnancy!

I passed the test! Everything was normal.....although now I just am baffled at why I was feeling so horrible.

Glad to see that the test went good. When I eat to much sugar or the wrong foods sometimes I get to feeling bad. It could also have been the added stress.
