Has anybody tested positive for GBS (Group B Streptococcus)?  My doctor told me yesterday that the swab had come back positive. She told me that I would be given antibiotics during labour to kill the bacteria before it reaches the baby. I asked if there was any risk to the baby and she had said no. That was the end of the conversation. Last night, I googled GBS and found that there are certain risks to the baby, and according to the websites I had seen, the baby could get really sick even with the antibiotics used.

Just wondering what others doctors had told them about this and whether they had seemed concerned or not...

Ditto on lilpixie! My test came back negative, but all my doctor said was that if it was positive she would have to give me antibiotics when I am in labor. She did not have any concern in here voice. Just basically one less thing that I will have to get at the hospital as far as medication, that's all! :)  GOOD LUCK!

I was tested last week and just got my results back yesterday, mine was negative.  But I was told its really no big deal and nothing to worrie about if your positive, many people are and all you have to do is have an iv of antibiotics.

I work in the the healthcare field (im not a doctor or nurse) but I see so many cases of women with GBS+.  Its very common and always treated with abx.  I have yet to see where if GBS+ is treated there was any problem with the baby.  The abx are given to protect the baby from contracting it.

An active infection due to GBS (group b strep) is maybe what the websites were talking about?  That's different.  You are only a carrier, you do not have an active infection.

I tested pos. with my first child and I was given the antibiotics and he was fine. It is actually very common. Google-ing things can scare you ;) but I'm sure all will be fine and your doctors are made aware of the situation and prepared! Best of luck!

I am testing tomorrow but my dr said that BBS is very common.  My understanding was that with antibiotics there were no risks to the baby.

I get tested on Friday I believe 36.5 week appt), My Dr. said the same as yours, if it comes back +, they give antibiotics, and made it seem like not a big deal. I am not that worried. I sometimes think googling things and over researching can be a VERY bad thing! =D

Keep us posted on you & the baby and what happens w/ the Strep B!! =)   Good luck, I am sure all will be a-ok!!
