Told to go to L/D today-rant

I am kind of frustrated, again, with my doctor. While swimming today I started geting cramps that were quite painful. I called my doctor on his cell, since it was the office's lunch, and he never called back. So, an hour later I called the office and told them what was going on. I figured that since the doctor was in the office today they could have me come in just to check and make sure that everything was okay. But, no.  They told me to go to L/D.  I decided not to go, because the cramps didnt feel like they were excruciating, they were just a little un-nerving. Going to L/D would have cost a lot of money for them to tell me that everything is fine, which I am sure it is. I think that I am dehydrated, I have been guzzling water and it is starting to get better.  I just wish that with all the money I am paying the doctor they would have seen me, it would have only taken a minute. If I were further along, then okay, off to L/D I would go, but at this point I know that all they would do is listen for the h/b and check if I was having contractions, then send me home, why couldnt the doctor do that, and it wouldnt cost me an arm and a leg.
I know having a baby costs money, and I am okay with that. When it comes time for delivery and all that, I am okay with those costs. I just cant justify spending the money at the hospital when a simpler fix is probably the anwer.
Anyway, I have been laying down the last few hours and drinking as many fluids as I can (still nauseous), and it seems to be getting better, and the baby's heartrate is good right now.
Off course if it were to get worse I would go to the hospital right away.
Do you think I made the right decision for the moment?

Thanks ladies, it is just frustrating. I am pretty sure that we will find a new OB for all of our subsequent pregnancies, but we really need to stick with this one now for a few reasons.  Like I have said before, I think it just puts me in a position to have to take more charge, I dont feel completly confident with the care I am getting, so I feel I need to be more proactive than I would otherwise. Oh well, before I know it there will be a baby here.

Am so sorry Cheese... honestly.. this Dr *****.. . I have been told that if we r not beyond 20 weeks .. and something like this happens .. go to ER..else go to L&D. But if the Dr's ofc is open and they can see u .. I don't see a reason y they should now. YEs it indeed is costly to spend extra at L&D /ER at every alarm...
I so hope that u had a better Dr nearby... from what all u have told us and have faced in last few mnths.... I already dislike ur Dr...
Hope ur sickness gets better... I think u shud ask him for medication again (I read ur other post abt still feeling sick).
Hope he takes better care of u...
Take care sweety

I am so sorry your dr would not see you.  When I have a scare (and I had quite a few!!!) he sees me right away.  He always does a quick u/s.  It takes 5 minutes and that way he is informed of what is going on.  Can you see another ob?
So sorry about the scare!
