When I found out I was pregnant, I weighed myself and was 205.6 lbs (and I'm 5'11").  I was only slightly overweight at the start, but my last weigh-in was 215.4 lbs.  So from 4 weeks to 22 weeks, I've gained almost 10 lbs.  I figured I was doing very well, since most of the books I'd read said about 25-30 lbs is recommended!

I think your doctor is being a little crazy about your small weight gain.  Was he your doctor with your last pregnancy?  Did he know how much you gained then?  Because if you gained 80 lbs with your last baby, and are only up to an 8 lb gain with this one ...he needs to lighten up!!!!  You're doing fabulous!!  =-D

I think that genetics come into play a lot.  Honestly I find it astonishing that your doctor was making such a huge deal out of 8 lbs, I find it quite rude to be telling your daughter to patrol you, I would be offended!  Just do the best you can do, and like an above post said, those pregnancy cravings can be mind numbing, I cant say 'no,' to very many of them!!

well i started out at 144lbs and i am 5ft 5inches tall...thats essentially normal.not underweight or over weight.i am now 152lbs or atleast was last visit.i am 20 weeks today so i didnt think it was to bad i know its normal for a gain of about 25-30lbs but my family..all of us seem to just gain much more no matter what we do.like i said we are all average size and i gained 80lbs first time around.my sister gained about the same and my mother claims to have gained almost 100lbs with each pregnancy (there are 3 of us) and lost it right away.but she was always very underweight.i guess its genetic as well as just being careful

it dpends on how much you wieghed in the first place, if you were over weight then you shouldnt gain much weight becasue this would cause complications, but if you were skinny when you got pregnant then she has no right to do so, I have gained 17 pounds so far, I am now 21 weeks and 4 days pregnatn, however I was 135 punds before I got pregnant and I am 176 cm tall, this means that I was under weight, and every time I ask the doctor if I am gaining a lot of weight she says that I am not.
so it depends on how much you originally way, and remember your doctor knows more than all of us in this matter, so listen to your doctor.

I am 19wks and I have gained 8 pounds total, which is right on target for me since I started out heavier pre-pregnancy.  I don't know why your doctor thinks that's too much.  Maybe your MD is just thinking about your weight gain from your last pg and wants to help you gain the appropriate amount?????

I understand, as Im sure everyone else does, how those hunger pains can take you over!  I started adding more high fiber foods to my diet and a little bit more lean protein (which doesn't always mean I reach for them over say, icecream) but those foods tend to fill me up better.  Anyway, that's what working for me these days or I should say, for some days....

i didnt think so either but they were quite verbal about it even tellin my 6yr old who i brought with me to hear the baby for the first time that mommy shouldnt be eating this and that and now i got a watch dog...i guess its good...because like i said i gained way too much weight with her and im hoping not to do the same but in the meantime since they told me this i am constantly hungry..no matter how much i eat im not being satisfied i think hes being spiteful..lol..

I think you are FINE... 8 pounds isn't bad at all.. I think I have gained 11 and my Dr. keeps saying it's ok to gain weight.. YOU ARE PREGNANT! I mean clearly he means within reason, but at my 11 pound gain, he didn't seem at all concerned..

That doesnt sound right... Im only a few weeks ahead of you and ive gained 6lbs and my doctor didnt say that was to much.  I wouldnt worrie about it. The book Your Pregnancy week by week (i like it much better then what to expect when your expecting, I have both)  says by 19 weeks average weight gain is between 8 and 14lbs.

I think that your doctor is being a bit dramatic. Like Stresshead said a 30 lb gain is normal and healthy, and everyone is different so a little more or a little less on either side I dont think is a big deal.  I think, honestly, as long as you are being responsible and not (like me) eating a couple of cupcakes a day you will be fine, I wouldnt stress.

Well I have gained 19 lbs since the start and it's nearly 21lbs. (I was 47 kg when I started and I am 55.8 kg now). I don't look excessively fat and I have my OB appointment Monday so I'll bring it up with her. Our food standards agency recommends 10 kg through out the whole pregnancy.
The what to expect when you're expecting book says 30lbs total in pregnancy and half that again for twins. So I would be expected to gain 20kg with my twins. AND people keep commenting how small I am, they all keep saying I was 'out here' (gesturing with hands) at 20 weeks.
