Does baby want to sleep on his/her tummy?

Cash's ENT and his Pediatric ENT have both suggested that I let him sleep on his tummy.  He is eleven weeks old tomorrow and it scares me to do it.  He has really loud breathing noises bc he has a "floppy airway" that collapses partially when he is relaxed.  The condition is called laryngomalacia.  During the day if he falls asleep on mommy or daddy he sleeps on our chest on his tummy and makes NO noise and sleeps wonderfully.  On his back (elevated or not) he doesn't rest well at night and doesn't hardly sleep at all during the day.  Last night I put him on his tummy and he slept 8 hours straight!  It was wonderful and he was in the best mood this morning!  I just don't know if I want to continue it.  
Just wondering if anyone is letting or has let LO sleep on their tummy?

I let Jack sleep on his belly *sometimes* for naps in his crib. This is when he falls asleep on my chest after eating and I want to get up...I'll move him to his crib and put him on his tummy so he doesn't have to get re situated and wake up. I make sure his head is pointing to one side or the other and turn on the baby monitor (my monitor has the movement sensor). I make sure to check on him while he's sleeping on his belly. Jack has always had a very strong neck and makes a lot of grunting noises during tummy time if his head goes into the mattress, blanket, etc. so I sort of trust that I'd hear him grunting if he found himself in a bad position. I don't feel comfortable with him sleeping like this at night, yet. Just because I'm paranoid and I wouldn't be checking on him like during the day. My mom always put my brother and I on our bellies to sleep, though, and we turned out fine! I think if your doctor recommends it, go for it. Whatever is best for Cash! Get a good monitor (maybe the one with sensor like mine) so if for some bad reason he stops moving for 20 seconds the alarm goes off! Jack slept from 9 pm to 7 am the last two nights! :) I know how exciting it is to get a good night's sleep and yes, baby is also happier! Good luck girl!

I voted sleep days and nights.  If it works for Cash then continue with it.  I too suggest to get a movement sensored baby monitor.  Good luck!

I let JT sleep on his belly for naps. Just not comfortable doing it all night but if your doctor recommends it you should go ahead.

I put Evan on his tummy for nap today cause he still super colicky and the pressure on his belly seems to make him comfortable. After about a minute I went to check on him and he had turned his head so his face was pressed against the mattress! I have never been so scared, he will never sleep on his tummy again.
If you have that sensor I would think it would be safe but we dont have that so it isnt safe.

My baby was colicky and has food sensitivities and reflux.  Sleeping on his tummy definitely helped him sleep better.  I wasn't too worried about him suffocating because he was able to turn his head from side to side when we put him on his tummy fairly early on.  At his 2 month appointment, his pediatrician confessed that when his youngest was a baby, he let her sleep on her tummy all the time because she was so colicky.
