Help with an important issue

by liscamdave, Jun 08, 2009 08:57AM
Hey gals, so I slipped and fell this weekend on my bad knee, which I have arthritis in already. It swelled up immed. I took tylenol for the pain which didn't help that much. Anyway, I had to go to the drs because I was having pains in my belly and braxton hicks like 10 times an hr so my drs made me head in to check everything. They wanted to give me something for the pain in my knee and I declined. Not sure if you all know, but I am a recovering addict and can't go back down that road, even one will do the job so I have to endure this pain. My question is, has anyone else had to take anything while pregnant or has anyone else's drs tried to give them pain meds and for what? My dr has also given me ambien for sleep...I researched online to see if it was ok and I didn't see anything saying it wasn't. I just want to make sure my dr isn't pill happy here..i mean he is pretty quick to give out these meds.

I was prescribed a low dose of anxiety meds when my dh left in march for the army he had a 2 week  training and at that time we were at a height of a pre-term delivery due to all my complications from early on in the pg. I have also had reoccuring bladder and urinary infections so I have had to take back to back antibiotics. Everything I have taken has been safe for the baby. Just think back to when you are in labor I got pain medication before my epidural and my kids are all testing above average so they obvioulsy have no affect on the babies if prescribed correctly and taken correctly. Think about it but remember it's different for everyone. I'm not in your shoes if you think you can't do it then just take tylenol! I hope you feel better soon

I think  a lot of doctors are pill happy. When I was dealing with migraines my doctor was out of town so one of the other dr.s in his practice prescribed me tylenol with codene. When my OB came back he put me on actual migraine meds, not a narcotic that does NOTHING but make me loopy.
I agree that you should try and bear through the pain, DF is a recovering addict and I know how just one pill can ruin all your hard work.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

14 years ago i was pregnant and inpatient in the hospital.   I had double pneumonia.  It was very painful and they gave me shots of demoral (sp?) for the pain.   My pregnancy continued thereafter...I was about 5 months at the time.   I had a baby and he was fine and he's now 14 and still just fine.  No ill effects from the demoral.    In fact..now taht i think of it, while in L&D with him they gave me demoral to take the edge off the  contractions before the epidural was put in.
