Hospital bags?

by Kimberlee_20, May 16, 2009 04:26PM
When are you ladies packing your hospital bags? I generally thought around 33W, but I'm starting to think that might be too early?

I don't know - I am almost to the 34 week and my mom is telling me to go ahead and get it done.  She had me (her first) at 36 weeks so she says its better to be safe than sorry.

I still haven't done it yet though :-)

Yeah my mom says the same thing, she's like what if you go early? then you'll wish you packed your bags haha

I tried packing mine early with Noah but it was tough since I use all the stuff I will need. I packed what I could, undies, nursing bra, nursing pads, night gown, babies going home outfit, stuff like that and then I put a list on it of the other stuff I would need (toiletries) so I wouldn't forget and that way if I didn't have time Joe would know what to get for me. I did have time to pack the rest of my stuff since most first timers have plenty of time before they need to head to the hospital.

There is no harm in getting it ready now if you want to. I think I did mine around 35 weeks. I will probably do mine in a couple weeks since my OB said I am measuring 2 weeks early.

What are we supposed to pack anyways. Is there some kind of list that I can get my hands on so I don't forget anything?

My hospital gave me a list, I don't know if every hospital does, but we're supposed to back stuff like toiletries and bring him outfits, cells and chargers, stuff like that

I think we should all be packing my friend just had her son last summer and her water broke at 33 weeks so she had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital and she was not prepared.  Tasia they say you yourself will need two bras, socks, nightgown, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and something confortable to wear home.  For baby, just the going home outfit and pic outfit because the hospital gives you absolutely everything else. Hope this helps all of you!!!

It is hard to pack early, since you'll need so much of the stuff again.  Like, I can't pack any clothes for myself, because I need everything I've got right now!  Also, cell phone/charger, toiletries, etc, (unless you buy travel size ones).

Anyway, I think it would be more helpful to pack what you can now, and make a list for what to pack at the last minute.  Generally, women don't wake up and have to *rush* to the hospital.  But, especially if it is your first, you may be in a bit of a panic when it IS time to go.  So having a list could be really helpful. = )

Yeah I'm going to, since I live like less than 5 minutes from my hospital I'm not worried at all.

i was told to pack at 30 weeks by midwife. i bought all thouse minature toiletries and literally just have to grab make up bag when it happens. midwife said goin home clothes for yourself will probaly be the ones you went to hospial in as abdomen will be tender and still quite big. hope this is helpful.

love julie

I wouldnt count on wearing the same clothes home that you came in for two reasons-

1.If your water breaks while in route to the hospital (happened to me) your clothes are going to be yucky.
2.You are going to want to be very comfy on that drive home, I would suggest low lying sweat pants and a loose fitting T-Shirt, most women look like they are still 7 months along when they leave the hospital, some look like they did before they got pregnant.

Tasia- If you have any pregnancy books there are usually lists in there on what to take.

Thanks GRose!

I remember with my last baby I brought a casual maternity wrap dress to wear home.  It was very comfy and because of the wrap style, I knew it would fit no matter what.
Also, I looked half decent, like I had dressed up, but I was really more comfy than I would have been in even sweats and a T-shirt. = )

I started mine. I 33 weeks. I don't have everything in it, since my neice is buying the outfit to bring the baby home in. I use some of the stuff that I need to put in it. One of my best friends bought me a gift basket with all the stuff I could use for the hospital. Like, socks, slippers, magazines, throw away lotions, toothbrush, toothpaste...basically a hospital basket. So I packed most of it. I have my bag next to my bed, all that is missing is my PJ's and clothes to go home with myself.

I packed mine the day of and will do the same with this one. I can't be bothered. I'm way to busy with the kids. You girls are too cute.....already packing so organized! Come pack mine! LOL.
