hcg levels low, to early for ultrasound?

by jhopeful, Nov 06, 2009 11:08AM
I posted this on the fertity board but thought I might get some feed back here too! So my husband and I have been trying to conceive a child for over two years.  After 6 failed IUI's and 2 IVF's...Our third IVF cycle I got pregnant!  We thought we could be all excited that finally we were pregnant!! But No!  The doctor is concerned by my "sluggish" hcg levels.  on 10/27 it was 73 on 10/29 it was 120, 11/2 it was 371 and 11/5 it was 686.  Now up until this last test, I was still optimistic!  Everywhere that I read it says doubling every 48-72 hours, which it pretty much was. Then this one it didn't!  The doctor is all concerned because their idea of "normal" is every 48 hours. After almost two years they should realize I am not a NORMAL patient.  Is this something that I should be concerned about?  It is going up! I am going in on Monday 11/9 for bloodwork, ultrasound and to speak to the doctor.  Do you think it's to early to see anything on an ultrasound? I will only be 5 weeks 6 days! I am so scared!  I just more than anything to have a baby and thought this was finally it!

I had an ultrasound yesterday.  They saw the sac and yolk but was it. Didn't see the fetal pole yet.  They think it's because my hcg levels are still low.  I am going back next monday and hopefully the fetal pole will be there!  I am feeling better that i got through the first hurdle and the gest sac is in the right place..now keeping my fingers crossed that there will be more to see next week!  The Dr said they aren't even going to focus on my hcg levels at this point, just what they see on the ultrasound.

My ultrasound was last week - 6weeks1day. The sac looked good, but the heartbeat was slower than they would like - more like an adults, so I go again at 8 weeks. 2 weeks of waiting is sooo long, but I'm staying positive.
We have been trying for 3 years to give my daughter a sibling - 2 miscarraiges, 2 IUIs, lots of fertility apts & drugs & this pregnancy was totally naturally! I was waiting to start my cycle for IVF testing & surprise!
